I have friends looking to take the SDI open water course. Can anyone tell me what the surface swim requirement is? (I think PADI's was 200 meters when I was certified, plus a 10 min tread water). Trying to prepare them as best I can. Thanks!

I've been out to a few of those reefs, usually ARC Towers, Boxcar, or Blandas. My favorite was Boxcar, which is about 18 miles off Boca Grande, in 70' of water. There's about a 60% chance that we'll be going out on that Saturday on my boat. PM me the week before, we may just have an extra spot!

I'm a little skeptical of this article. Short on facts and we already know the story has holes in it. Bull sharks don't get THAT big. I doubt the world record is even 12ft. :shakehead: But I'm sure the guy was bitten by SOMETHING, and I hope he's OK. And I hope the newspaper gets it right...

Don't know about that area, but down in SW Florida I see them at 60' routinely, around reefs/structure.
