    What to do ?

i've got a 5 ft hose. my buddies all have 7 ft hoses. none of them have lights. all of them tuck it into their belts and pull it towards the back so that it is out of the way. the other option is to loop it under the knife. may or may not fall out, depending on the individual.

Is this a weight problem? or am I close?

you sound like you are doing tropical diving. since it is a 3mm suit, even 20 lbs is way too much. this is taking into account your height and weight. you should be able to get down to about 10 lbs eventually. with loads of experience and comfort in the water, 4-6 lbs might be the final steady...

    dropping weights could save life

that sounds quite a bit overweighted for drysuit diving isn't it? if it wasn't, why couldn't he have swum the rig up? if you had to save your life, i'm sure you'd be kicking pretty hard! with dry suits, don't you keep inflating all the way down? as you swim up, the air would expand, making it...

    Diverite Trek Wings

not necessarily. i understand that some manufacturers have wings with grommet holes that are spaced differently. the diverite bp is probably more "receptive" than the halcyon one. *sigh* looks like i'll have to find a day to travel down to the shop to have a look for myself.

    Diverite Trek Wings

are you using a halcyon plate?

    Diverite Trek Wings

thanks dude. can i understand you to mean that the trek wing and the pioneer wing have the same bolt hole spacing?

    Jacket Inflate...Back Inflate...BP/Wings? Help!

no such thing as too early a stage. just get a bp/wing setup. it will be the last bc you will ever own. take it from someone who has gone through too much gear and learnt it the expensive way.

    Diverite Trek Wings

Couple of quick questions: 1. What do users think of them (e.g. vs 40# explorer wings)? 2. Do they fit halcyon backplates?

    Apeks

i'm using a tx50. DS4 was about US$150 and so was the tx50. how about your part of town? any cheaper?

!!! we must report this to the collective at once! rogue agents have been placed in positions of authority and are attempting to usurp the fundamental philosophies we have worked so hard to build! like i said. don't think this is a big deal. only irritating thing is to require two wrenches...

    Apeks

yup! you got me there. that's why i went with a DS4! the logic here is that it is hard to find a 1/2" port plug but once you do, these things don't fail on you as often as hoses do.

if i'm not wrong, its not that easy finding a 1/2 inch hose. using the adapter works but as the DIR folks say, this is one more failure point (not that big a deal in my opinion). most people i know who have these regs plug up the 1/2 inch port and use the 3/8 inch ones. routing may get a bit...

    Another BP/W question (education needed)

    1. i dive in warm waters. everyone whom i know who has a ss plate either does not use it or is trying to sell it. which means that everyone is diving with an aluminium bp. more ditchable weight is better than less. don't worry about corrosion. i haven't seen any on plates that are >5 years old...

    Aqualung (Tian) Micra Adjustable?

i used it on one dive. never wanted to go near it again. bubble interference is extreme. i had a titan lx. this is the optimal size in my opinion. have now moved on to a tx50 because of better control over breathing (performance is also better but i'd say its not very noticeable for recreational...

How bright are Luxeon Star LEDs?

holy crap! this is the most informative reply i've received in a while. had no idea heat sinking was so important to the performance of LEDs. many many thanks for the info. so i guess i will have to see the lights in person and make a judgement call rather than trusting what they say on the net...

How bright are Luxeon Star LEDs?

I'm thinking about getting a backup light that uses a Luxeon Star LED. The tektite one for instance uses 1 of these babies and rates it at about 15 lumens. They also claim that it is equivalent to about 19 of their regular LEDs. My dive buddy has an Tektite EX40 with 40 LEDs. From what I...

    bcd for petite diver

backplate and harness. i think enough has been said about the fit that can be achieved with these systems. in addition to have the tank stuck to you in an extremely stable system, you get the advantage of better weight distribution underwater. most bc's tend to make you bottom heavy, meaning...

    Trying to buy HID?

i've got a 10w helios from halcyon. it doesn't increase vis that much in low viz actually. max that you can go is about 15ft and still be able to make out stuff. big improvement over 2ft but practically speaking, not much of an impact in my opinion.

    Inflator hose and warm water.

i dive in the tropics. never seen a drysuit before in my life. over here, we inflate the closed circuit smbs orally. besides, you need to be able to control it before releasing so oral inflation appears to be very convenient. one full lung into the smb is probably what most people can control...
