    Trip planning advice

How would you compare Villa Aldora/Aldora Divers and Roberta Scuba Sack/Lodge? in terms of location, dive service, accomodations?

    Trip planning advice

Thanks for all the good advice. While it would be nice to explore town a little, we wont be dining out, hence the reason for staying at a place with a kitchen/ette. I like very much what I am reading but its the cash payment that may end up being a deal breaker. Even paying the extra $20 for...

    Trip planning advice

I was referring to Villa Aldora, not Aldora Divers, requesting payment only in cash. And its not just about them purposely stealing my money, but as well know many things go wrong with a trip and by paying with credit card, theres added protection and (often included trip insurance).

    Trip planning advice

Both Aldora Divers and Villa Aldora look like they would suit our needs. I am a bit concerned about Villa Aldora's cash only payment policy. I can't recall ever having paid cash in the past 2 decades to stay anywhere. I really would hate to see that money lost with no recourse if anything were...

    Trip planning advice

Thanks. Just reached out to them as it does look like it may fit the bill. One thing I'm curious about. They mention the onsite reef, and I've seen posts here that mention shore diving, but their website mentions only snorkeling. Do they provide tanks for independent shore diving on site ? Also...

    Trip planning advice

Considering a trip to Cozumel this May. Will be our first. We are both AOW, Nitrox certified. Not the biggest fans of drift diving but considering giving this a try anyway, particularly since it may end up being the most reasonably priced option. Trying to decide between staying at a dive resort...

    Looking for destination advice - March/April 2024

Ok so we had to postpone this trip to end of May. Still trying to decide on a destination. Overwhelmed with conflicting advice. Once again, we are looking to a dive focused trip (beer with some music at the end of the day would be nice). Preferably a direct flight from MIA/FLL (a hopper flight...

    Looking for destination advice - March/April 2024

Thanks for the advice. I'm a little confused by what seems to be contradictory advice regarding Caribbean liveaboards vs resorts. As for drift diving, I don't mind it, just that when I see something interesting, I like to take my time and watch it, explore, take photographs. As for wrecks, I do...

    Looking for destination advice - March/April 2024

My FIL and I are looking to do a 5-7 day dive trip this March or April. We are both AOW, EAN certified. I have about 100 dives logged, almost all of them in south Florida, split between shore and boat diving. He has extensively more dive experience with lot of dive travel (Galapagos, Exumas...

DAN membership no longer providing accident insurance?

Well I guess I am lucky I realized this before actually needing the insurance!

DAN membership no longer providing accident insurance?

I just went to renew my membership and noted that it does not include dive accident insurance, only medical transport coverage, unless you purchase additional DAN Dive accident insurance coverage. Is that a change or did I just not pay close enough attention previously when renewing? I could...

    Best scuba advice you’ve received

More important than emptying your BCD at the the start of a dive is to empty your bowels before you dive. Try to sh!t before you get onto the boat, into the suit and definitely before you get into the water!

Teenager with DCS, mother in denial, treatment delayed

Thats because you don't live in Florida. One who lives in Florida for any significant amount of time, learns to not discount any story as too bizarre to be true, if it is reported to have occurred in Florida. I love much about Florida...but it is a special place.

Tg-6 Strobe Upgrade from Video Lights

I bought an Inon Z240 and a video light as a package used from a local diver I found through this or wetpixel.com (can't recall). If you're willing to buy used and take the risk of person to person sales, you can save a decent amount.

Please recommend good Fla spots for checkout dives.

I concur with Aqui. Did my kids certifications with them. They are SSI. The Blue Heron Bridge (Phil Foster Park) would also fit your criteria and there are a number of dive shops and private instructors that serve that area (Pura Vida, Force-E amongst others).

    Lauderdale by the sea

I dove to the first reef line yesterday early afternoon, towards the end of the outgoing tide. There was a mild southward current. Viz 20-30ft. Temp 77 degrees.

    How to minimize danglies

Thanks for all the great advice. I setup a couple lights with bolt snaps on my shoulder d-rings and snoopy loops. Worked well. Have to figure out best way of stowing my DSMB. I do like the bungees on the backplate but do you still keep the reel attached and just leave it dangling? I'd be worried...

    How to minimize danglies

What wrist band? I tried one of those wrist light holders. And lost my light within the first 5 minutes getting through a rough surf.

    How to minimize danglies

So you dont bolt snap it to a D-ring or something? Just rely that the bungees will hold it in place till you need it?

I meant while I am using it, in case I get a case of butterfingers and drop it.
