Just read this in the local news myself. This really sucks. It was so nice to have 2 bags with all the scuba gear, and Southwest seemed to be one of the few airlines left that gave half a rat's ass about providing decent customer service. I may also have to go back to the bag drag through...
I didn't really think much about it at the time, but reflecting on my trip from Nov 5 - Nov 20, I can say we had consistently weak currents everywhere we went, every day. Definitely the least 'current-y' diving I've had on any trip to Cozumel so far.
The bleaching is terrible. Some reefs...
I purchased the Oxycheq Expedition CO analyzer. The sensor lasts 3.5-4 years, and only requires calibration when the sensor is replaced. Mine is a little over 2 years old. They estimate about $200 to replace the sensor and recalibrate at the 4 year mark...
I bought a CO monitor a couple years back after reading some horror stories about CO poisoning in tanks from liveaboards, and seeing many posts from DandyDon who has done a great job with education about the subject here. I've been testing my tanks ever since.
I thought I'd share that my...
All were 84F at the surface and often 84 for the whole dive, but at depth I had a couple dives at 82 and one that hit 80 at the bottom. Things are slowly cooling off.
Well, this trip ended with a whimper and not a bang. The port was closed for the last 2 days and then didn't open this morning until 10am, so I lost my last 3 chances at diving. It also screwed up my friend's snorkeling tour since they had to cancel on us twice. In desperation I took her...
Here it is Friday, and I've got some catching up to do! I had a friend come to Cozumel for her first trip ever the day after I last posted, so I've been busy busy busy between diving and showing her my favorite island. Unfortunately we had a mild norte roll in yesterday, and while diving was...
This is still the case. There's no longer an immigration form you have to hold onto and return when leaving. You just keep the second half of the customs form which has no identifying info / signature / etc, it's just an instructions sheet.
Yeah it's a bit of a pain but they have a little section they drive the boat right up to the beach so you only have to get waist deep at most and then climb up the side ladder. We picked some folks up that way just a few days ago.
Iberostar is the biggest pain in the ass for dive ops to deal...
I am staying at the Residencias Reef condo complex which is between Secrets resort and Carlos & Charlie's beach club. They are individually owned condos so you can find them on VRBO, EnjoyCozumel.com, and I'm sure many other places. I stayed here for the first time 2 years ago and absolutely...
For folks that stay at Iberostar, ask your dive op if they'll pick you up on the beach next to the pier. The guys I dive with pick people up like that all the time. You can just wade into the water next to the pier and hop on your boat if you're diving a small boat. That way you avoid the...
6,017 days after my first dive in Cozumel, the stars aligned and I finally got a chance to do something I'd been looking forward to for a long time. A boat full of skilled divers and a perfect day with calm currents meant we were going to get a little hellish.
I have read stories about...
Monday's diving was serene and mostly uneventful. For the first dive we hit Palancar Caves which was spectacular as usual. The formations are awe inspiring there and the swimthroughs are always fun. I saw my first green turtle of the trip, but he was 50 feet away and shy. He started...
No mediocre pictures for yesterday's dives, so if that's what you're after you can stop here and ignore the rest of my incoherent rambling. :)
I did a twilight and a night dive yesterday, and I elected to leave the camera behind and just soak up the experiences. For the first dive we...
Sadly, yes, about 2 1/2 years ago I think. I was told she was a victim of COVID, but that was secondhand so I don't know for sure. It's too bad, she was always nice and patient with us gringos every time I interacted with her.
I don't know the history and complications of the project, but I definitely saw the guys working late paving the road outside Pancho's Backyard the other night.
Has anyone used ISIS recently? Are they still the same quality operation they were before Margarita passed? I haven't rented from them since then but might want to get a car for a couple days next week myself.
