    Tobago or Barbados

The main road had us worried but you are in a quiet area - Speyside. We enjoyed Manta Lodge, the diving and walks and birdlife was great. Barbados is very expensive compared to to Tobago. Be ready for ripping currents in Speyside all dives were drift dives.

    Curacao Copter Diving-Anyone tried this?

Reminds me of the power boat racing that I saw in Key West were each leading boat had a helicopter with a diver ready to jump in should the boat flip.

Coral Spawning 2009 - Ocean Encounters West, Westpunt, Curacao

The Full moon is early in the month this year - 4th September and 4th October. From previous years I would expect the 7th to 13th of each month to be when the Coral Spawning occurs. Now which may be the most spectacular is debatable, as the full moon occurs early in each month. I note on Habitat...

Who's been diving in Barbados and what did you think??

35 minutes! Last visit we dived with West Side Scuba, I always elected to go with the cruise ship visitors. Jump in first and you get at 15 to 20 mins more dive time as they were so slow getting in.

    Bonaire Shore Diving fin options

The only rule I can see is under rule 9 To remove anything from the bottom or put anything on the bottom of the BNMP. Does this mean temporary items like strobes and entry markers which are removed at the end of the dive. I have often seen the DM's mark an entry point with a bottle and a...

    Bonaire Shore Diving fin options

We use Quattros with spring straps, ideal for shore diving as they are so easy to put on. The DM's at Don's on the boats tend to use full foot fins as that what was available. Last time we were there open heel fins were not available for hire. Having shoes flapping around on a dive would...

    Best photo ops in Bonaire?

Wide angle I would say all sites but especially the Hilma Hookerand the Piers (When open). I like bait balls for wide angle shots and the Tarpon at night are fun. Macro again all sites, maybe more at night. 60mm is great for Angel fish, froggies and Sea horses. Have a great trip.

Tobago in February - Recommendations Please

We stayed at Manta Lodge in Speyside three years ago and had a great time, the diving was great, but expect big currents. February would be a good time to go. For none diving the wildlife is exceptional we had roof terrace and every morning had coffee on the roof and watched the thousand of...

Diving Bunaken/Lembeh: Staying on mainland vs. island?

We stayed at KBR in lembeh and enjoyed it so much we went back to KBR but we then spent the 2nd week at Siladen Spa which was great for us. I worry about lembeh straits becoming over dived. The facilties to support Live aboards did not seem to be good and guess were the sewage goes, not nice...

Nine days to go... Lightning round!

Hi here are my thoughts 1. Small knife or shears, they are allowed and if you see string or line over the coral you can remove it to prevent damage. 2. Flags not needed but take care at Something Special (Marina Entrance) and the dive sites either side of Atlantis as the kite boarders do...

    Tobago, diving, crime

We spent two fantastic weeks on Tobago at Speyside, we walked around in some quite deserted spots and never felt worried or threatened. The locals were great and seeing many young men walking first thing in the morning carring machetes was a bit of a worry but chatting to them was easy, they all...

    2009 Coral Spawning Dates?

Dates should be the same for BON and CUR but I base my calculataion on day 3 to 9 after the full moon. We have done this in BON and initially CUR every year except 2008 since 1998.

Who said no big animals in Bonaire?

We saw Golly the Goliath Grouper a few times at Knife and a Manta at La Machaca, Nurse Shark at Carls Hill and Black Tip Sharks at Forest and at Bloodlet. The funniest sighting was at Barcadera at the end of our dive in the shallows with two female snorkellers, I thought that girl is wearing a...
