Tulum Area or Cozumel for a mixed group of divers and non divers?

Check out Soliman Bay. It's just a few minutes north of Tulum and it's beautiful. A nice sized bay ringed with rental homes and villas of various sizes. You'd get a car at the airport, get some groceries in Tulum at Chedraui, head back to the bay and enjoy your holiday! The bay itself is...

Back Roll off a boat... Will I die?

I think "normal" will come with more practice. Back roll is certainly fastest and least disruptive... you could have your tanks handed down to you after entering, but that takes a while, and then there's the clipping etc. On our recent trip to Indo I used sidemount, mostly single tank but a...

    When did you lose track?

    Why no Con Ed?

To add to TS&M's post above (I agree with everything she's said), I also think that there are many aspects of diving that a person can certainly learn on their own through trial and error, and practice. I also think that many of those skills are achieved and improved much more quickly through...

    Why no Con Ed?

I'm not the audience for your question, but I do have an opinion... OW divers who are here on Scubaboard often ask questions about "which course should I take next?" and are bombarded with answers that say "just go diving." I think that we as a community do not value further training beyond OW...

    Drinking water while diving?

Not impossible... I used to occasionally bring a collapsible platypus bag in my bcd pocket and drank from it.

Cozumel, august 2014 - year of the pipehorse

Love the shot of the painted elysias. And the juvie coney! How big was the Fringe-back nudi - he's new to me. I love the patience with which you take photos. So many full on fishy faces. Thanks for that!

    Bangka/Lembeh solo in December/Jan?

Sort of. Silk Air is a subsidiary of Singapore Air. Singapore Air is part of the Star Alliance, while Silk Air is not. The fact that they "are sort of the same" is how we were able to get our bags transferred from one to the other, no problem. But no Aeroplan points for Silk Air, darn it!

    Bangka/Lembeh solo in December/Jan?

We flew Manado to Singapore to Denpasar with a very tight connection... Manado to Singapore was on Silk (left on time) and Singapore to Denpasar was on Singapore Airlines. We were able to convince them to check our bags all the way through - took some asking and getting a manager involved but it...

Training agency throws Instructor under the bus while misleading the court

Is there more information somewhere about the actual incident? I read the document posted, and from what I read (entirely possible I missed something) the instructor's lawyer said PADI had provided no explanation for the expulsion. But that was pretty much it. Did I miss it in the document, or...

The Journey to Dive Master Begins

Good luck, Ebi! Love your enthusiasm, and so glad to have met you near the beginning of your scuba career! If there are ever any questions we can help with, please do not hesitate to ask. And it goes without saying that we'd LOVE to see you underwater, maybe in Cozumel, or if you make it to...

    Automatic tipping for to-go orders

Not a personal comment to diversteve, but in general, I get really tired of hearing this. It's not small stuff. It's getting ripped off, and if you would not accept that treatment if you were not on vacation, WHY on earth should it be acceptable just because you are? To the OP, good luck...

    Atm card compromised in cozumel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ATMs, or casas de cambio. You could bring USD acquired from your ATM or bank at home, and change those to pesos at a casa de cambio, which normally gives a decent rate of exchange. Also allows you to just deal with humans instead of any banking machine. Just an option.

Thinking about doing the DM course...

I can't speak to SSI, but as far as PADI DM goes, one of the required materials is the current Instructor Manual. So as a DM candidate, you'll have access to the information about what is supposed to be included in your course and all of the requirements you're supposed to meet... thus making...
