Looking to dive with someone this Saturday in Santa Barbara -- June 27.

I'd like to go diving this Saturday and all my usuals have bailed on me. I was thinking of launching my small 21 foot boat in Santa Barbara harbor and heading to Santa Cruz. I could use a dive buddy and extra set of hands....anyone interested? Thanks, Bruce

Help me choose some new gear

Well, both my daughter and I use an Aqualung Legend. Works great. Nice and smooth and never fails and breaths the same at depth and shallow water. That said, there are a lot of great choices. Good luck!

Looking for Santa Barbara Diving Buddies?

Steve, That's great advice! I'll put you on my list and reach out to you sometime. I've never been diving nearshore Ventura so perhaps you could give me the tour sometime. That's awesome that both you and your wife dive! Talk to you soon. Bruce

Looking for Santa Barbara Diving Buddies?

Hey there, I haven't been on the Board for a while, but I find myself looking for SCUBA buddies lately. I have a 21 ft Striper that I can easily traverse up and down the coast looking for clear water and I also use it to go to the Islands (Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa and San Miguel) on calm...

    New Regulator Question

It was unbalanced...which was the problem. Not a lot of alternate air sources (especially integrated ones) are balanced. Probably more accurate for me to have said that if you buy a Aqualung Legend then you will need to pair it up with balanced second stage alternates. That said, I have had my...

    New Regulator Question

I have the AquaLung Legend. It is a good reg "but" it has an overbalanced first stage. Supposedly, that makes it better for deeper dives, "but" it will cause most second stages to free flow (or slowly bubble) at depth. It supposedly doesn't happen until very deep, but mine would do it at 20...

    Nikon D5100

I just bought a Nikon D5100 for my wife and I to play around with. It's our first "real camera." (Even though I know many of you don't consider an entry entry level camera as a "real" camera). That said, I haven't been able to locate a housing to be able to use it underwater? Lots of D5000, but...

    Help needed with UW Photography

Thanks for the info on this thread everyone. I just bought a Nikon 5100 and was ready to pos the same question. I am guessing everything for the 5000 goes for the 5100?

Hunting and Gathering in Southern California

Scallops are can usually be found in clean current swept rocky reefs. Some of the easier sites to dive are picked pretty clean but those hard to find areas still have plenty to catch. As far as clams, etc., I haven't found much in the way of Southern Cal--exception of muscles. There are a ton of...

    Selling here a violation?

Too big to ship at 100lbs? Is it your wife? You could probably get more for her on Craigs List!

    Catalina Dive Park pics 03/26/2011

Great pictures. Next time try taking the time to dust off the lobster first. It makes for a better shot and the lobsters like their backs rubbed!

    Qualities of Equipment Manufacturers

My first set of gear was a combination of used and "very" inexpensive new. My total cost in today's dollars was probably $500. My set of gear now (27 years later) cost me about $8,000. You can buy a bottle of wine for $3 or you can buy one for $300. You can drink either one and get the same...

Fish & Game Commission approves South Coast MPAs

JustinW: Not sure what "Duesies" you are referring to. I was simply commenting on my personal experiences and the annual catch reports as presented by the California Fish and Game going back two decades in some cases. The numbers are on the WFG web site for everyone to see? Anyway, good luck...

Fish & Game Commission approves South Coast MPAs

I hope you are right but I have never personally experienced it. If I were king of the world I would shut down virtually all commercial fishing of CA bottom fish and I would have fewer MPA's but much greater limits on fish catch. The good news is that no one is going to listen to my opinion so...

    California Diving Co. Dive Box

I just bought one yesterday from Home Depot. My gear fits in it perfectly--and then some. It may not have a SCUBA gear sticker on it (I suppose I could put one one) but it only cost $50 plus tax. It does that job. Thanks for the idea!
