I just moved to Port Angeles from the Midwest and I'd like to find people to dive with and show me the area. I've dived quite a bit in the Great Lakes, so the cold water doesn't bother me. Info on dive sites and gatherings of divers in the area would be much appreciated!

There is a plug that can be put in the side hole to use the valve without a crossbar. Otherwise, as you implied, the gas would escape through that route. To complicate things, some of the valves can be converted to an h-valve by installing an additional fitting. These are also controversial.

New Years Day we dove the Muskegon channel next to the Ironsides. I would be hesitant to do that in the summer because of boat traffic though. There wasn't much to see either.
