I have been away from ScubaBoard for some time. Sure looks different.
I am going to Cozumel from mid February to mid March and staying at the Landmark Resort condo complex. I know from having visited there last year that there is a dock adjacent to The Money Bar and I saw divers being picked...
Since my last post I have learned that Scuba Tribe has closed the shop and booking by referral through their website. Same people and same great service but NO SHOP.
I have only done one trip to the Red Sea, a liveaboard from Sharm on the Whirlwind. I would recommend Cozumel over the mainland if it is a 'dive vacation' you are after. Playa del Carmen will bustling in March as it is the typical month of school break and most of the All Inclusives will be...
If you were going to the ferry terminal WITHOUT a 'stop along the way' then the bus is easiest and cheapest. With that stop then Cancun Shuttle is your best bet. Depending on how long ago you used the service they may have ironed out the bugs since then. Then get me to my condo in Playa and pick...
I'm looking for some clarification on the status of GeoFish and Abyss Dive Shops. I was by the GeoFish location and it was locked up and empty. I was also told that Abyss was also vacant but did not go by to verify. I was leaving town before I could check it out. Can I get a confirmation on the...
Thanks for the reply. That is a great link. I also found information on the proposed developments that could ruin this area. Anyone with access to a vehicle that snorkels in Akumal should add Xcacel to the day trip. Some public awareness can go a long way with conservation efforts.
In March/2012, I did a day trip to Akumal for some snorkelling with my wife and her brother's family. The wind was up and the water choppy. We didn't see as much as usual in the bay so we headed south to Xcacel beach. I hadn't been there before but it was recommended by a friend who called it a...
I have been to both Cozumel and Belize.
Coz - Iv'e done it several times as a day trip from Playa and also staying at Hotel Cozumel. It is the only hotel I've stayed at so I have nothing to compare it to. I've used Dive with Martin several times and also Pelagic Dives, Aquatic Adventures and...
I have to wonder how anybody is making a living in the dive business when the local dance is the 'Dive Shop Shuffle'. March should still be high season...the months when you make $$ to survice the low season just around the corner. Can't go wrong with Abyss...good people...good shop. I've never...
Current is not normally an issue in PDC. This year has not been typical and the weather in general has been unsettled. The port has been closed more often than at any time in recent memory and once was closed for 5 consecutive days which is unheard of. Visibility has also been affected with...
I could be mistaken but I believe GeoFish sends you on the TankHa boat to Coz. Unless something has changed they don't send their own boat across the channel.
Correct me if I am wrong but I understand you must be CAVE CERTIFIED to dive the cenotes without a guide. The cenotes are private owned and you will not get onto the property without signing in and paying the fee plus showing proof of certification. The locals are very protective of the industry...
When in Playa I use the $5 per tank standard. I usually tip at the end of the trip and give it directly to the shop owner/manager. If it is a reputable operation they will divide it amongst the DM/Captian and crew. The shop should not take any of the tip. I tip separately if I have included any...
Our internet searches with the symptoms as described revealed a condition called BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positioal Vertigo. It is not a diving related illness but it can be triggered by several common activities including diving. It is more commonly associated with flying and can also be...
Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I did a 2-tank dive today with my son. He is a 30 year old in good health with normal height and weight and no medical issues. He received his OW 4 years ago and did no dives after that. Today he did a 'Refresher' in the pool and then we went to the reef. We did a dive...
Just a side note: PlayaCar is adjacent to Playa Del Carmen and is a gated community of wall to wall tourists. You will require a cab to get anywhere but there are hundreds of condos and they tend to be cheaper. I woudn`t choose PlayaCar unless there was nothing else available.
Just my opinion...
I have a condo in PDC but it is not available FEB/MAR as I plan to be there myself. However you can search www.homeaway.com you will find many condos in the area. The dive shops tend to be in the downtown core and as far north as 38th Street (Cyan Ha at the resort that used to be called...
Any information on All Inclusive Resorts or is this just a Carribean/Mexico phenom. I'm still trying to get dive info here but so far........ not so good.
Thanks for the posts so far.
I'm in the early stages of planning a trip for September of 2012. The tour is of Vietnam and Cambodia ending in Bangkok on the 27th of Septembet/2012. It is a two week tour with my wife and I was hoping to spend a few days (up to a week) diving at the end of the tour. Is there any day trip boat...
