    1st trip Bonaire - luggage/gear/etc questions

Absolutely take your own gear if you have it. I would suggest your mask, reg/octo and computer go in your carry-on bag. One trick with the BC is to undo all the straps and open it up as flat as possible, put it in the bottom of your bag and pack on top of it. Don't overlook the foot pocket of...

Dives at Town Pier and Salt Pier?

That is one of our favorite spots -- and a very easy entry! We really like to head north and always see lots of fish. Be sure to look in all the old tires and other debris under the pier for juveniles, especially juvenile spotted drums. Also, there is usually lots of small bait fish in the...

    Bonaire Poll, treacherous shore diving??

Small Wall is a shore diving site only if you are staying at Black Durgon or a rental house along that part of the shoreline as there is no other access. In the past Al, the owner of Black Durgon, has not let folks enter through his property. We did Small Wall from shore when renting a house...

    Bonaire Poll, treacherous shore diving??

Actually, Yellow Submarine is in Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy. It is on page 39 of the 6th edition and is listed as an "easy" site. I agree with Robin that it is a great spot and finishing the dive around the boat moorings always means finding lots of cool small critters such as sailfin...

    Carnival in Bonaire

For many years our winter trip coincided with Carnival in Bonaire. Most businesses remain open throughout although on the day of the big parade some of the downtown businesses may close as the streets are blocked off. If you can go to the big parade it is really quite fun and the children's...

    Bonaire Poll, treacherous shore diving??

The yellow rocks were part of a project by students at CIEE. There was some concern that divers might think that the way that was marked was the only way in and not adjust accordingly based on conditions. There was also concern that once a storm came through the contour would change, making...

    Bonaire Poll, treacherous shore diving??

My husband and I are long time visitors to Bonaire and love the ease of shore diving. However, we always check out the site before gearing up because what can be an easy entrance on one day can be a tricky one just a day later based on surge or wind conditions. If the bottom is so stirred up...

Understood and you won't be sorry with Bart and his crew. Also, consider purchasing the book Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy by Susan Porter at Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy, BSDME, Author Susan Porter. It is a great resource for those new to Bonaire but especially those new to shore diving...

    Wannadive for Beginner Divers?

Bonaire is a great place to build your confidence in shore diving and the folks at Wannadive are certainly a good choice. Have you written to them and asked about hiring a DM to get you started on some shore dives? Once you have done a few you will see how easy it is and can venture out on...

Bonaire Dining...Looking for reviews and costs

Pasa Bon Pizza, Wil's, Patagonia, Bistro de Paris, El Fagon, Plazita Limena, BobbeJans area all favorites for dinner with Wil's, Patagonia and Bistro being the more expensive of the list. Have heard good things about the new Thai restaurant above the Harley shop. Don't usually eat lunch at a...

    Rental gear at Captain Don's

Are you sure it was Captain Don? He is pretty much retired from anything to do with the resort bearing his name. Maybe someone else at their shop? Whenever I need gear or to have my gear serviced on Bonaire I go to Bruce Bowker at Carib Inn. He (or any of the folks who work for him) are...

    Christmas in Bonaire !

Good choices for boat dives include Small Wall and any dive site at Klein. As Vince said, no need to "dress up". There are many great spots for dinner. Some of our favorites are Wil's, Patagonia, Bistro de Paris, Capriccio, Pasa Bon Pizza, Bobbe Jan's, El Fagon, Plazita Limena and Mona Lisa.

    Waterlands Village Community?

The dive shop at Port Bonaire is indeed very close to Waterlands. It is Dive Friends and they have other locations on the island which make it convenient for swapping out tanks if you are north, south or in town.

    Any Tomas Impact?

Can't speak to the dive conditions on Curacao after Tomas but heard from a friend there via sat phone that there was massive power outages, some of which are continuing. At least two people died in Curacao as a result of the storm and there was some damage to buildings including a hospital.

    Christmas in Bonaire !

I would book the fewest number of boat dives possible and then check to make sure that you will be going to Klein Bonaire (great dives only accessible by boat) and other sites that are not easy to get to as shore dives.

    First night restaurant?

Nothing is very far on Bonaire. It would take you less than 7 minutes to get to "It Rains Fishes" from Bamboo Bali. What night of the week are you arriving? That could make a difference because of various opening days. You are right that by the time you clear Immigration, gather luggage and...

Get a Marine Park permit, rental truck and tanks downtown?

Contact the folks at Dive Friends/Yellow Submarine. They are within walking distance of the cruise ship dock. You could certainly get a Marine Park tag and tanks from them. However, you may still need to go through an orientation, even as a repeat visitor. Not sure about an in town truck...
