I want to pee in my drysuit, but politely.

Unless your bot was randomly generating the above post, your best bet is to ship your suit to Ron. Ron works here: Hood Sport 'n Dive! Ron will install a valve and have it back to you in record time, his work is guaranteed, and his prices are competitive. Make sure you tell him you...

    Drysuit undergarments question...

Gotta agree. Used to do a lot of diving in extremely cold water (Lake Superior), and a layer of polypro long underwear inside your undergarment is a great idea - for the reason mentioned.

An open apology to the entire Community

Jim, While my youngest was in Afghanistan I was a wreck. I'm sorry to learn of the passing of your wife. Enduring two such events simultaneously would make anyone irrational. I'm glad your son is home safe, and I wish you and your son the best in together grieving the loss of your...

    Wet Suit Advice

Remember that if you do 2 or 3 (or more) dives in one day, you're likely to still be chilled from #'s 1 and 2 when you drop in for #3. Don't purchase a wetsuit for only "1 individual dive" if you routinely do multiple dives in one day... Just a thought. YMMV.

Chest pain which disappears on ascent

Strongly recommend you call DAN. Can't hurt, and they may very well have some ideas or other data that could narrow down your possibilities or suggest yet other maladies to consider. DAN Divers Alert Network If you want to, let us know how your appointment goes. Doc

Belt attachment for wrangling long hose

One accessory that I think makes a workable hose control point as well as having genuine utility is called the Halcyon harness pocket: BC System Accessories | Halcyon Dive Systems It's arguably most effective in circumstances where the diver wouldn't use a cannister light anyway, such as...

Headaches, nausea, vomiting upon surfacing, NOT seasickness!

Steve, I don't have enough knowledge of other factors (e.g. weather, wind, height of seas, etc.) from your charter boat episodes to comment specifically, but I may be able to give you a few thoughts to consider. I've only been seriously nauseous twice on long off-shore rides, and both were...

The CCR One Year Later - Some Random Thoughts...

Thanks for the feedback, Rick. My dive buddy is panting to get a rebreather. For my part, not so much. Your thoughts reinforce some of the reasons why I'm not that eager to spend the money and time going that path. Still, the day may come when my life goes a different direction, and I...

My son is on his way home from Afghanistan!

Congratulations, Jim, I know that some of your anxiety has gone down. My youngest got back in March, and my relief was profound. Please tell your son that we are proud of him, and grateful for his service. Doc

    Even more convinced about DIR

Perhaps you should find another LDS to certify her. Or even a private instructor. There are several on this board whom you could contact to check into private instruction. Just a thought...

Don't ask me to list it all or I'll start wimpering again

The amount of money you are apparently seeking is either all or part of the $1000 deductible for which you are out of pocket, correct? I've no idea where their responsibility legally ends. Most franchises post signage to the effect that "we are not responsible for your property left...

    Do I need a knife/tool

+1 Always carry a cutting tool. Monofilament nets are nearly invisible underwater, and once you are in one it's doubtful you'll get untangled by yourself. A cutting tool is critical. Shears are often more valuable than a knife IMO (for cutting nets) because they have opposing cutting...

    Proper weighting with doubles.

My humble opinion is "flat against your back". Unless you need to move weight further down your "lever" to trim out, weight flat against your back is less apt to roll you around your longitudinal axis at awkward times! You might want to look at Tobin's heavy plate. What sets it apart is...

    Unrealistic Deco Time

Thanks, Thal. (What algorithm is it using?)

    Proper weighting with doubles.

Hmm...well, according to Lloyd Bailey's site, the swing weight on a set of LP 120s is right at 9 lbs per tank, so assuming both tanks are drained the set would be some 18lbs more bouyant at the end of the dive than when both tanks were full at the start...

    Unrealistic Deco Time

Ian, you could be completely correct. The only plausible reasons that I could see that the computer might have called for 4 minutes at (somewhere between 50' and 40') are first that the 4th dive followed three earlier dives in excess of 70' for in excess of 70 minutes each, which would have...

    Unrealistic Deco Time

Like the rest of you guys, I seriously need to get a life. But two other thoughts come to mind (just because I like messing with this stuff). While trying to find out which specific algorithm was programmed into the Wisdom, I noted this little gem: "Deco Calculations: Calculates...

    Unrealistic Deco Time

WetLens, Let me first emphasize that I'm not trying to dog you - I'm trying to explain an answer to your question regarding 'why you wound up with 43 minutes of deco obligation on your computer'. Not knowing what you know and what you don't know requires some assumptions to be made on my part...

    solo diver course

Scott, in this case you are welcome to speak for me. I could not have stated it better myself. I would find it more curious that someone would have the viewpoint that a diver was not qualified to dive solo prior to taking the course, but after taking the course they were now qualified to do so.

    solo diver course

My opinion is that if you need a course to instruct you regarding diving solo, you ought not to be diving solo. That said, one of the more tangible benefits of this course is that without a solo certification card there are quarries and charter boats that will not allow you in the water...
