I usually tell people to do whichever (Cave 1 vs Tech 1) first that they will get the most use out of. If you think you'll get about equal use out of them, doing Cave 1 first gives you the opportunity to learn failures and problem management with less time pressure (so more time to use your...
For the experienced diver, think of Fundamentals as a structured coaching program. Anyone in any sport can benefit from working with a talented educator who can take them from wherever they are to a better and more refined skill set. A talented scuba educator can adapt Fundamentals to the level...
And that it will be manned with $5 admission year-round (7 days a week) starting Sat Nov 4.
This comes from the staff on site as of Nov 3 and is a decision that was just made based on shenanigans that occured during the brief unmanned period recently.
Also the algae on the cement steps is...
Absolutely hilarious Shawn! Thanks for adding some Halloween fun to the Devil today! My students regret not stopping to put some cookie "treats" into your goodie basket (but they might have been a bit focused on their own "tricks").
Please pardon the delayed response, I've been teaching all week and on the road.
While there is a lot of skills overlap between Rec 1 and Fundamentals, Rec 1 is a course designed for the non-diver or for someone who has had a multi-year layoff from diving.
Rec 1 is 5-6 days depending on the...
I'm in town at the moment. I heard the missing diver was off the Lady Luck wreck (300ft long and 135ft at sand there) and the missing diver was diving with a dive charter operator Sat morning. CCR. Solo and long run time planned.
I've been diving in the area all week and there has been a...
Rec 1 classes seem to be in short supply in the USA, and we have one seat in a Florida class, July 6-11, 2023.
Come Learn to Dive with GUE! Have a friend you've been wanting to get into the sport?
Class will be taught by Dave Watson from San Diego and supported by Mer Tanguay/Wet Rocks Diving...
Some agencies dictate cord inside long hose, some outside long hose, some agencies don't specify.
INSIDE PROS: Long hose *might* help keep light cord from dragging, fewer steps when donating
INSIDE CONS: More steps (of that requires two hands) to not trap long hose when temp clipping or...
Lots of talent in Mx for GUE instructors, but I want to throw one in here not mentioned yet: Danny Riordan.
He's pretty much allergic to self-promotion which is why I want to mention it here. He is super passionate about cave diving and supportive as a cave educator... and also has 20 plus...
Between @digitalMechanic and @YahiaAhmed you've gotten good answers.
And I want to add one thing. For best success (read: least stress, most learning, most fun) in Cave 1 or Tech 1, you should have the back kick be something you are able to use for positioning while doing something else and...
Yes, no dives are required between tech pass and a level 1. But you do need at least 100 logged dives.
I'd also strongly suggest 25 dives in the configuration (exposure/tanks) in which you plan to take the next class.
The super-flexible LP hoses are an artifact of a good hose manufacturer getting out of the business (Goodyear I think, ask @tbone1004) and crap filling the demand.
These super-flexible hoses can be pinched closed while pressurized much easier than ideal, so I personally would not go seeking...
Yup, Nohoch does go forever at 15' but you can get some killer long dives in the shallower Florida caves. Take a stage in Peacock and with some re-calcs you've just dived through most of the day. Plus, there's something awesome about Ginnie of turning when you get tired and going for the fun...
No, but tell Ginnie Staff and there's a good chance they'll be banned or at least kicked out for the day without a refund.
Hit 'em right in the admission fee.
@ginti This is a myth...
The Mexico caves are shallower, the tanks are smaller, the fill pressures lower.
The Florida caves are deeper, the tanks are bigger, and the fill pressures border on stupid (aka much higher).
The net result... bottom time is about equivalent FL vs Mx.
At C2, the...
@ginti
AVERAGE EXPERIENCE
While 25 C1 dives is the minimum, I'd say the average experience is 50 C1 dives. I also strongly suggest that at least 10 C1 dives be in the prior 6 months before coming to C2.
WHY PEOPLE FAIL
Number one reason people "fail" a GUE tech or cave class is lack of...
