    HMS Perseus

Hi Victor HMS Perseus is located halfway between Zakynthos and Kefalonia (the island north of Zakynthos). Since most dive centers in Zakynthos are located in the southern part of the island, it is more likely that a dive to Perseus should be made from Kefalonia. Yet, once you get to Zakynthos...

Greece diving tips and advices. Need your help!

All tanks in Greece are both DIN and Yoke i.e. the central part of the valve can be removed to accomodate DIN regulators (see below). Tanks in diving centers are mostly steel / 12 liters capacity @ 230 bar. Plain air is our standard breathing gaz. Nitrox is available but not everywhere.

Hi there Being myself Greek, sailor and diver I find your plan very promising ! Weather conditions in September are very favourable, both for sailing (winds are moderate) and diving (the water is pretty warm and visibility is good). Unrest? Really?!?

The situation in Egypt is certainly critical because too much is in stake for both parties involved. I have many friends in Egypt and I am quite worried for what goes on out there ... Yet, this is a divers site/community, so, from a diver’s perspective and from my own experience living...

    Missing Rescue exam since 2009

Hi all, I need some advice I did my PADI Rescue course back in 2009 w/o taking the final exam, and I therefore didn't get my certification. It was a deliberate choice, because all I wanted, back then, was the experience rather than the card. 3 years down the road, I now need the certification...

Is a DM or Instructor required for diving in Sharm?

DMs is the norm, however have a look on post #10 in the thread below : http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/western-europe/425298-certified-divers-students.html

    Certified divers & Students

Actually, this is not totally correct. I know from personal experience that several dive centres, at least in Dahab, especially those located on the sea front, would let their customers dive their house-reefs w/o beeing physically accompanied by the dive guide. The dive guide would typically...

Diving in Greece in August? Athens or Corinth or Nafplio or Loutraki?

Crostaceo in Loutraki is fine. I personally dive very often with these guys. Yiannis Liggos is the manager. Crostaceo is located in Posseidon Hotel, which is a resort with beach, swimming pool, restaurants, bangalows etc, so you may consider spending the whole day than just dropping in for...

    Scuba-Diving in Askeli- Poros, Greece

I cannot tell about shore dives in Poros. However, Saronic Gulf (that is where Poros is) has numerous good diving spots, yet at some distance from Poros. For example, an intersting wreck (Avantis III) lays close to the nearby Agistri island, at 17 nautical miles from Askeli. Petrokaravo reef is...

Sinai Diving Guide: Volume 1 (or beyond)

Sinai Diving Guide is on sale in practically every dive shop in Sharm - shops stay open until quite late so you can't miss it. It is an excellent book indeed, not only for the dive sites but also for the Red Sea in general (history, geology, marine fauna etc) Don't worry if you can't buy it...

    Crowley's Blog

I have one additional concern. Divers who were not taught and/or are not familiar with tables, are very likely to ignore actual NDL figures (i.e. 45 min at 20 m, 20 min at 30m etc). Unless a diver is using the planning / simulation mode of his computer (if available), the only perception of...

    Soaking regs unpressurised... oops

I dive exclusively in sea water. I regularly soak my regs after diving (both 1st and 2nd stages) unpressurised with dust caps on, in warm water for at least an hour. This is in line with what Apeks prescribes. I do this for all regs (sealed and not). Never had any problems. If I suspect that a...

    Spare air - or not?

That is correct because, in fact, I was able to pull the 9 breaths while slowly descending from 115ft to 130ft.

Would this experience of yours suggest / insinuate that tables (RDP) should be maintained in OW training and not be superseded by "computers" ?
