Anyone been to Nelson's Ledges this recently?

I'll be visiting my brother in NE Ohio in a couple weekends and we were wondering about Nelson's Ledges. I did a search but there is no recent info - everything is a few years old for the most part. Just wondering if the vis has improved. Also are their any scuba facilites there? Do they have...

    New to Scuba from Ohio

Guppy, Bob Stover in Tiffin is also an instructor. He is not affiliated with any store, however he usually goes to New Wave Scuba in Port Clinton for his gear and air fills. He used to teach the YMCA program, but now that their program is defunct, I believe he is an instructor for SDI (I think?)...

Blue Heron construction - any news?

KBeck--thanks for the info. I think we will probably plan on trying to get down there then. We are itching for some nice leisurely shore diving, and this sounds like it fits the bill very nicely.

Blue Heron construction - any news?

Walter, thanks for the info. The next question I have is in regards to spring break. We will need to do this in or around the spring break season because I will be bringing my son who will also be on spring break. Is that area affected as much as Fort Lauderdale, or is it semi normal during that...

Blue Heron construction - any news?

Hi all! My brother and I were just talking today about coming down to sunny (hopefully!) Florida probably in the Feb / March time frame to dive the Blue Heron bridge. But then I did a search today and found the construction info. Not being from there I looked at some aerial photos of the area. I...

    Falling Rock or Twin Quarries?

I can't speak to Falling Rock, because I haven't been there yet, but Twin Quarries is not bad especially for a newer diver. There are 2 quarries as the name implies and both are fairly shallow (around 20-25'). There is a small dive shop in case you need something, they have changing rooms, and...

    Free tanks worth it?

Elonna, My brother lives near Cinci, and just got his tanks visual inspections done at Scuba Unlimited on Blue Ash Rd. The guy even did it while he waited. It was an outstanding deal and won't give you sticker shock. You should check it out.

    Inexpensive Warm Water Gloves

I've done the same as DM said. Cheap fabric gardening gloves that have a rubberized coating on the palm and fingers. They worked very well, and as she said, if you lose one so what.

SCUBA Support and Offroad Adventure Bugout Trailer

That trailer looks awesome and should prove to be just what the doctor ordered. Here is a link for some solar powered battery chargers that aren't too terribly expensive Solar Trickle Chargers for Car, Truck, RV, Boat, Deep Cycle . I am curious about the design of the tongueless trailer...

    help with a reg freezing

I have this reg and can vouch for it's cold water ability. Last fall I was diving a quarry and the temp on the bottom (~80') was 39 deg F. My dive buddy was leading the dive and he was damn near racing. I was working pretty hard to keep up, but my reg never hiccupped. It breathed nicely the...

    Time and depth please...

As a diver operator, if you don't record that info and schedule dives using that info, are you not also taking on undo risk especially knowing today's legal climate?

Does a dive flag protect you? Think again.

I just came across this thread and rather than read all 117 replies, I'm just going to post my opinion. I agree with the OP that if law enforcement put a BIG fine on violating dive flag limits, word would get out quickly and violations would cease almost instantly. As an example, when you go...

    Dive beer?

Here's the link to that 120 miute IPA dogfish ale. BTW, you'll see it isn't for the calorie conscious individuals:beerchug: Dogfish Head - 120 Minute IPA

    Dive beer?

Seaducer-- the DogFish brand is brewed in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, so I would say chances are, yes it is the same.

    Dive beer?

I like lots of different micro brewed beers (yeah, even some of the mass produced american beers). Hefe weisen beers, most of Sam Adams brews, and I'm really becoming a fan of the really hoppy IPAs. My brother found some stuff brewed by Dog Fish Head. The 90 minute IPA is outstanding, and if you...

How often do you clear your mask?

One thing I've noticed is that on my warm water dives (Key largo and Cozumel), my mask never seemed to leak at all. But it does constantly in the cold water of the quarries up here. After reading some of the posts here, maybe it is because of strap position or tightness of the strap (hood in...

    Homemade underwater housing

TVTECH-- it looks good and should work well for what it is. I made one similar to that (from a previous discussion on this board). It works well and so far has never leaked. To make it simple, I did not have any buttons and went the same route as you--long tape and lots of battery time. The only...

    G9 Pictures From Palau

I would have to say WOW!, especially for your first attempt. I especially liked the first 4 pics that you posted, and in particular the jellyfish against the surface that you made into your avatar. Very nice job!

    YMCA Scuba Closing?

When I was getting my air filled yesterday at Whitestar quarry, the guy doing it (from Divers Incorporated-- who also reads this board) he said that my cert card was going to become a collectors item due to the fact that the YMCA was getting out of scuba. He said it was supposed to be announced...
