Equipment Woman loses lower leg to prop - Maldives liveaboard

Pre-Covid I did dozens of liveaboards all across the globe (Maldives included) from 2005 through 2019. We were never required to deploy our DSMB as part of our checkout dive. September 2022 I was booked on the Naia (Fiji liveaboard) and was pleasantly surprised when we were all asked to deploy...

    Diving during Carnival

We were in Coz in Feb. 2020 staying at Casa Mexicana (right downtown). Diving was not impacted at all. We loved the grand parade with all the colourful floats! We were a group of 4--IIRC we prepaid a neighbouring restaurant employee to "hold" a curb-side table for us. I've been to Coz many...

    Cost of ADO and ferry

Interesting........which terminal did you arrive at? I checked my travel file and it was Terminal 4 that I am referencing.

    Cost of ADO and ferry

I flew Toronto-Cancun and did the bag drag this past October: flew Westjet and arrived in (I think) Terminal 4 in Cancun. The ADO bus ticket must be purchased from a vendor located inside the Cancun terminal building. The ticket you buy will have a specific "departure time" noted on it...

    Question Galapagos liveaboard preparation

I've been to the Galapagos 5 or 6 times now. I would encourage you to: (a) get some advance practice deploying a DSMB, preferably using a finger spool. I find a reel too bulky and awkward. (b) forget buying gloves at a dive shop, try to get glove "liners" that construction folks wear. They...

    Norte coming Nov 2023

Water temp at depth has been consistently 84 degrees, according to my computer. I dove 7 consecutive days, from Wed. Oct. 25 through Tuesday, October 31.

    Current water temps?

Currently in Coz for 11 days. Dove yesterday and today. My perception differs from @living4experiences Coral bleaching is evident, but it is not pervasive and there are lots of critters: the "usual suspects" are turning up on each dive!:)

    Bag drag question

I've done the bag-drag quite a few times. In one instance, I arrived at PDC ferry very close to the next departure. I was anxious to purchase a ticket, and there were a few people lined up at the ticket booth to buy theirs, so I was feeling nervous that I would have to wait another hour or two...

    Frog Fish on Cedral Wall

Your eyes were not deceiving you! We saw 2 batfish on Yucab when I was there last month (March). They were not the "red-lipped" variety that I have seen in the Pacific (Cocos and Galapagos). I have not seen "froggies" in Cozumel, but will look for them in future trips.

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

Hello @Kimela I have stayed @ Casa Mex for the past 15 years. I find the mattresses very comfortable: well supported, neither too soft nor too firm. The cleaning staff is excellent: floors swept/mopped daily. The tiny mini-fridge is located behind a cupboard door in the wall/storage...

Water in regulator at depth causing panic

Thank you @rick00001967 for sharing this--and thank you also to other posters who have raised the same issue. I was not taught to "dry breathe each reg before turning on the gas" in my scuba training; but will adopt this practice in future dives. Always something to learn on Scubaboard!

Help/advice please, Suunto Vyper gives inconsistent/incorrect "remaining air" info.

An update on the problem with my eBay-purchase of a pre-used Vyper Air. I am in Cozumel now, heading home tomorrow. But I have contacted the eBay vendor and explained the problems with this DC. I used my cell phone to take multiple screen shots of two dives logged on this computer--they...

Thank you. I am familiar with Aquarius Scuba. I am currently in Cozumel. When I return to Toronto I will seek them out!

Help/advice please, Suunto Vyper gives inconsistent/incorrect "remaining air" info.

Hello @scubadada The computer was purchased on eBay. The vendor was selling it on behalf of a friend; I have emailed the vendor today, but have not heard back. Worst case scenario: I have been scammed! Best case scenario: there is an inexpensive remedy for the problem through the...

Help/advice please, Suunto Vyper gives inconsistent/incorrect "remaining air" info.

I purchased a Suunto Vyper (second-hand) as a backup for my Suunto D9. The D9 and transmitter are fine. Prior to a dive, the Vyper "pairs" with the transmitter correctly.. At the beginning of the dive the remaining "air time" reading is fine. But after 20 minutes into a dive, the remaining...
