    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

Anyone can walk into a local O'Reilly Auto Parts store and purchase new brake pads for his/her auto. And then he/she can switch out the old brake pads for the new ones. No license, or certification, or permission is required. Even a small auto weighs more than a ton, which generates a *lot*...

    BP/W for beginners?

@MrVegas, I don't use weight pockets with any of my BP/W configurations. (I use an old-school, rubber weight belt.) I don't use trim pockets, either. Nor a single tank adapter. (I use a doubles back plate only when I am wearing my baby doubles; I wear either my SS Freedom plate or my VDH...

    BP/W for beginners?

My DSMB (Carter Lift Bags Divers Float) has a Velcro strap for this. My reel is connected to my lift bag. I hang my reel from my left waist D-Ring, and I slip my lift bag in a loop of bungee cord that I place around my cylinder near the bottom of my back plate. (I used to use silicon oxygen...

    BP/W for beginners?

Many of us here still wear our snorkels on our mask strap when doing recreational diving--for exactly the reason you've stated (for either resting on the surface or swimming/kicking prone on the surface). Looking/being cool has less importance to many of us here. ETA: I use a simple J snorkel...

Wanted Double HP100’s (would take LP85s too) - Minnesota

Ah, okay. I inferred that you are wanting shorter cylinders--since you wrote, "... I have LP95s currently and I am too short to trim them well." My post was to let you know that the PST LP95's and the PST HP100's are about the same length (I think). That is, a PST HP100 is NOT appreciably...

Wanted Double HP100’s (would take LP85s too) - Minnesota

@Barefoot_Lawyer, You might double check the tank specs. I was thinking that PST LP95's and PST HP100's (3,500 psig) have approx the same height, approx 24-25 inches. And Faber LP85's are a bit longer. rx7diver

Question re: minimum air volume when decompression diving

Yeah, I know! I generate four schedules: the original, then another for a 10 min delay, then another for 10 fsw deeper, and then the last (which I expect to never have to use) for both a 10 min delay and 10 fsw deeper. Having to use schedule #2 or #3 doesn't seem extremely improbable. rx7diver

Question re: minimum air volume when decompression diving

@scubadada, FWIW, when I plan a deco dive, I will plan also for a delay at depth and for a next deeper depth (if there is no hard bottom at my planned Target Operating Depth). So, for example, using your example with tables, I will plan also for a 30 min Bottom Time (cf. your 20 min BT) and...

Question re: minimum air volume when decompression diving

Even if you're diving solo (so, no buddy concerns) and very petite, then if you're deco diving either side-mount or BM independent doubles, I think you'll find that Faber LP50's won't provide enough gas for you to safely incur a lengthy deco obligation. (Open circuit diving.) rx7diver

    Poseidon Cyklon 2950

Don't have an answer to your question, but the 'R' port is for your primary second stage. It provides a venturi assist for higher flow rates. I'm almost certain that that "hole" has something to do with this venturi assist. rx7diver

    Hello from Kansas City!

Drive a little farther than Table Rock Lake and you'll reach Bull Shoals Lake. If you like the vis in TRL, you'll like the vix in BSL even more. rx7diver

    How to clean HDG tanks

Depends. Both my PST HP80 (3,500 psig) and my PST HP100 (3,500 psig) are a bit too negative for me to dive safely in fresh water if I am wearing no wetsuit or my O'Neill 3/2 jumpsuit wetsuit. I don't know if this is the case for me for salt water, though. Maybe this applies to you, too...

Attaching a torch/flashlight to your BCD so you can use it but not drop it.

More than 20 years ago I walked into our local Harley-Davidson shop and asked for a discarded inner tube. I trim "rubber bands" off of this old inner tube as I need them. The rubber is extremely tough. The diameter of these "rubber bands" is a bit large, though, and I have to double them over...

Attaching a torch/flashlight to your BCD so you can use it but not drop it.

When I dive my SP Stab Jacket, I use the bolt snap attached to my dive light to hang the dive light from a brass ring back near the bottom of the SSJ's backpack. When I begin using the dive light, I unhook the bolt snap and move my dive light up front where I pass my SSJ's chest strap through my...

    Big Heavy tanks!

Hi @scubadada, I wasn't expecting anything in particular. I simply couldn't see enough detail in the first couple of pics. However, in terms of buddy diving these deeper recreational dives (outside of training dives) in colder water (where a cold-induced free-flow is not unlikely) and/or when...

    Big Heavy tanks!

Ah, I was thinking that your dives were in cold water. But a 3mm wetsuit and no hood suggest water that's not cold enough to worry about cold-induced free-flows. I, too, prefer simple gear! Still, the viz shown in your pic suggests it might not be too terribly difficult for you and a casual...

    Big Heavy tanks!

@jordaof, Thanks for sharing your dive report. Did each of you use a pony bottle? Back-mounted? And did each of you use a Y- or H-valve (so, two 1st stages) on your large, back-mounted single? rx7diver

    One-piece vs Two-piece drysuit undergarments

I've only ever worn a one-piece drysuit undergarment. For a surface interval, I most often will unzip my drysuit, and remove it from my shoulders and arms. (I let it hang at the waist, held up by the drysuit suspenders.) Then I will sometimes unzip the jumpsuit undergarment, also, and remove...

    DIN, Yoke, and Head Space

For my SP MK10's, I use either yoke or DIN as convenient. I don't use any special tools for switching the yoke to DIN or vice versa. In particular, I don't use (haven't used) a torque wrench--although, if I owned one, I would use it. Switching back and forth is straightforward. One thing: I...
