    Oceanic+ Dive Housing

Never mind, apparently this was announced and discussed last year? Oceanic iPhone case is now a dive computer

    Oceanic+ Dive Housing

Just got this email from Oceanic: https://www.oceanicworldwide.com/product/oceanic-plus-accessories/oceanic-plus-dive-housing/ TLDR: 60 meter Dive Housing for iPhone that allows you to use it as an underwater camera and non-AI dive computer. $489 Honestly... I'm intrigued. I used to dive with...

Roatan Trip in Feb 2024 with young child and grandparents.

That tracks with how few other divers we saw at the time! (I think we shared a boat occasionally with another couple and their teen kid. Otherwise it was like a private charter.)

Roatan Trip in Feb 2024 with young child and grandparents.

My wife and I had a great stay at Luna Beach back when we were dating. Just off the beach and far from the cruise ship port. It was my first post OW trip (her second) so our diving needs were not too extreme. Their dive shop / operation was very nice and my dive log notes are all extremely...

    Key largo

+1 for private boats from Quiesence. We did that a few weeks ago and it was a great experience. Solid operation.

Help me pick a regulator set for my 11 year old son, please

Although I love my Atomics - with one ludicrously expensive new model exception they're all the same (excellent) design just differing materials but If you're not already in the ecosystem I wouldn't jump in if you're going to do long hose. Most of them come with a very nice comfort swivel which...

Help me pick a regulator set for my 11 year old son, please

I know everyone is casting shade on doing SPG and Transmitter at the same time, but I think it makes some sense in this circumstance. A new diver who just did his OW (or Junior OW) with an SPG might want both for a bit to get used to relying only on a computer for pressure data.

    Affordable and crazy fast.

Help me pick a regulator set for my 11 year old son, please

Congratulations - my twins are 7 and interested but I doubt they’d be ready to start diving at that age. I’m looking forward to when they are though. I definitely wouldn’t get more Oceanic. I started there and bailed after some severe parts shortages during when they got bought. (I also had a...

    MacDive: Nick Shore

Dive Log is great, except syncing between Phone/Tablet versions and Desktop is... impossible? Convoluted? (Phone<->Tablet is easy.) MacDive is great, full stop. Subsurface seems like the most likely to have ongoing support but the UI is... rough.

Atomic B2 v. Ti2, and AladdinPro Dive Computer

That's a good reason. I hadn't looked closely at the Swift transmitter. Our Oceanic / Pelagic transmitters have worked (with battery changes) mostly trouble free for 15 years (every once in a while the computer loses connection but waving your hand near the reg seems to fix that) so I doubt we'd...

Atomic B2 v. Ti2, and AladdinPro Dive Computer

My wife dives the Aeris Elite and has declined to upgrade because "it works fine" - the battery is pretty easy to change (if it includes the tool) and as others have mentioned the transmitter is the standard Pelagic one that works with most computers (I use the same one with my Perdix.) It's not...

    picking out a new reg

Deep 6 Signature has the fifth port and rotation. Service is by mail (or self-service) but it's fantastic. Off your list I've also used Atomic, and the ST1 is a nice regulator for sure. Even discounting money service on any sealed Atomic is a little more involved so will take a bit longer but is...

Scuba diver dies while exploring popular shipwreck, a third tragedy in the Florida Keys

Yikes. My wife and I were at the SG just a couple of weeks ago for a regular rec dive (although we saw someone solo diving side mount pop out the fuselage in front of us, which was amusing.) My first time there, her 2nd I think. Definitely seemed like the kind of place that was completely...

    Just a shout out

I know we all love the performance and value of the gear, especially the regulators. I just want to tip my cap to the company for the service experience as well. I dropped mine in the mail on Monday and received them back on Friday. Not even a rush job. Meanwhile my wife's Atomics are in limbo...

Help me find a new place to live.

For me, California (at least many parts of it) falls into the same category as New York City (where I grew up.) For some people they can’t imagine living anywhere else and it’s totally worth it to put up with the innumerable hassles. Everybody else should get the heck out of there.

Help me find a new place to live.

I lived in Utah for a couple of years, highly recommended. Diving sucks (there's a crater!) of course, but there's an airport. Or come to Atlanta, not because it makes good sense on any of your criteria but because I can buy you a beer in gratitude for my excellent Freedom Plate.

    Fin break-in period?

Yep that’s the plan (and one reason I got these) - I can frog kick and it went well when I’d do it but 10+ years of split fin conditioning is hard to break. Found myself flutter kicking whenever I stopped paying attention.

    Fin break-in period?

Oooh that seems easy enough to try.

    Fin break-in period?

Just habit - definitely may try again changing styles. If I can find a way to get pool time that would be ideal but went a year with new fins without getting them wet which should tell you how likely that seems. (apologies for the edited post - one of my three year olds grabbed the phone and...
