    Belize Aggressor in January, 2024

I've been on BAIV 4 times, 10 day trips. I like it a lot - no bunk beds and it is a BIG comfortable boat. They stopped doing 10-day trips and I hate 7day trips so I'm going on BAIII for 10 days next month. I don't know the relative age vs BAIII, I've only experienced 2 failures on BAIV that...

Solo trip to Belize in November - any shop recommendations?

I'd revisit aggressors if you're ok with a liveaboard. I've done BAIV 4 times (loved it every time) 3 of them solo. If you're willing to share a room with a stranger then there is no single supplement, and you may luck out and get a cabin by yourself. I like the "pay for seven get 10 days"...

    Belize Aggressor III questions

Aight, I'm starting to plan a trip for summer 2023. I like 10 day trips, 7 is not worth it. I despise bunk beds. I'm going back to Belize - young daughter lives in San Pedro so I'm combining diving with a visit. Since BAIV no longer offers 10 day trips, and BAIII is exclusively bunk beds...

    Vents on Jet Fins?

Doesn't matter what or how it works, or doesn't. In 1967 I bought a pair. 15 years old and they were the baddest-azz, coolest thing going, and chicks dug them. That's them in my profile pic, 30 years later. They were still the baddest-azz, coolest thing going. Chicks were fickle.

    Braided fishing line for DSMB?

I haven't tried braid on a spool, but I have fished with it. I bought $$$ of braid to load up all my reels - that's what the pros said I needed to do - so of course I did it. That stuff will snarl and get knots if you just look at it. I can't even figure out how it gets knots in it, but it...

    Taylor Made + Candy Land - Currents/Safety

Its been a few years but the thing I remember about Taylor made Is the one way out/in. If you miss you wind up in the soup. The day we dove it was a little surgey and missing the path would have resulted in crawling in and getting bounced around in shallow rocks/coral. Nothing hard, just...

    'sexy' ads on SB

I have these shallow water anchors on my bass boat, Minn Kota Talons. They were getting a little squeaky so I needed to grease them. I called Minn Kota to ask what kind of grease. They said any "water-based lubricant" will be fine. So I googled "water based lubricant", thinking I'd order a...

Recommendations for Belize Trip- Diver and Non Diver

I did a week on BAIV for max diving then a week of visiting young daughter in San Pedro AC for eating/drinking and a coup!e of day dive trips while she was working. That worked pretty well for me. I would Not recommend SP for a divediivedive trip but good for topside.

    Surgical tubing vs Bungee?

A long long time ago, before there was a parking lot at Devils Eye, we used surgical tubing to "stuff the long hose". It melted and turned into a gloopy mess. I guess it was sunlight. I almost never got that stuff off my hose. Bungee. I put bolt snaps on each end of a piece of bungee rolled...

    Old time scuba divers

1976, PADI OW. Seems like 132' rec limit was taught. Navy tables, but nothing about deco that I remember. My first dive trip post-cert, 1976, was to Cayman Brac, with a day trip to Little Cayman. I don't remember any questions from the dive op (Winston McDermott's) about cert limits, except...

    Question Vintage Scubapro Jetfins

I had a very early 70s pair that started to split, and they did indeed give up the ghost mid dive. I hated to trash them.

Yep, seeking advice for Belize in October

Usually I go in august. Last year I went the last week of oct on BAIV and the 1st week of nov to visit young daughter in San pedro. Basically I noticed no difference on land. Maybe I just caught 2 weeks of great weather. no rain, normal winds. The diving, thouugh. I got cold. I always...

Question ISO “Best” All-Inclusive Dive Resort Options in the Caribbean

Sorry to the OP. I think my Bon comment kinda veered off into the usual "SNAAAKE!!! / Non-venomous, harmless" discussion. There's plenty of that in the Bonaire section for your entertainment. What I meant originally was, in my view, IF you were considering Bon it is not the place for AI...

Question ISO “Best” All-Inclusive Dive Resort Options in the Caribbean

When we were somewhat younger and a group of 4-5 (for whom dad was picking up the tab) shore diving was largely a financial decision. Now, older, and maybe wiser, I will probably do some boats.

Question ISO “Best” All-Inclusive Dive Resort Options in the Caribbean

Plenty of luxury places on Bon, just not resorts. Think "Piet Boon" houses on the south side. Al$o think $$$$. I agree about the boat vs shore thing. Been to Bon many times, never a boat dive. But I AM getting older so... Boat/shore/both is personal preference.

Question ISO “Best” All-Inclusive Dive Resort Options in the Caribbean

My opinion only: If you're thinking of Bonaire don't do AI. A huge part of the allure for me is dinner in the many many good (not great imo) restaurants on Bon. You can be as spendy as you like, or dial it back a bit at some of the local places. We do breakfast in the condo, lunch is usually...

BHB Trip - Many questions, requests for advice

And I thank you all. I'm gonna try and make this happen. My bride has signed off. What she actually said was "just do the Aggressor. Easier and you can visit MH." (Young daughter is a "restauranteur" in San Pedro) I saw a mention of "Open Waters Resort" in some thread here somewhere. It...

BHB Trip - Many questions, requests for advice

Thanks guys. Sounds like I should skew towards end of sept/1st of oct, depending on tide tables. I'm on my way to MILB with the rest of the drunken old goats now. Nothing like nachos with processed plastic cheese food, jalapenos, beer and minor league beisbol. I'll give this some serious...
