Shore diving entries in the Sydney area

Coming tonight actually, for a conference! Didn't think I'd have time to dive, but I will-yay! so I'm doing two shore dives with Abyss on Friday at Bare Island. I saw a warning on the website that said 'rough entry/exit', and was wondering. The walk won't bother me at all--I was just wondering...

Shore diving entries in the Sydney area

How difficult are they around this time of year? I know if will vary greatly and depend on the tide, I'm just wondering in general. For instance, in my opinion, Bonaire is generally very, very easy, while Southern California can be pretty tricky. Thanks!

Which type of fins for shore diving in Bonaire

Agreed, leave just about everything in the hotel. That said, the one thing we left in the car were our sunglasses, but we only brought cheap $5 pairs. Never had a problem.

Which type of fins for shore diving in Bonaire

Taking closed fins (and walking barefoot over the rocks) is about the dumbest thing you could do it Bonaire short of killing yourself. Take the open heeled fins and booties. Make your feet happy. I saw grown men crying with nearly bloody feet because they thought booties weren't needed in...

How do you carry your compass...or do you?

SK-7 on left wrist. Using DSS boot. Offset it with the bungee. Works just fine. This isn't a gear issue that "needs" a retrator. Just keep diving and save the money.

120-130'. Might go deeper, but I haven't been past 120', but didn't go to the end of the crack.

How do you pay for SCUBA?

HA! Maybe so, but it's darn hard paying for diving when you are still in the middle of step 2! I'm a grad student. I fund my diving through the charity of others, and by occasionally not eating...

    Great Rescue Class

Rainer and I just took a rescue class (7/27-7/29) from Rob (Dive-aholic) and Jen Neto of Southwest Scuba. The class was at Lake Pleasant in AZ, and we camped out there for two nights. When we got there Friday night, we went over two knowledge reviews with Jen, and then watched the first two...

ARGH! Tank rentals near Lake Pleasant?

Wow. I'm dumb. Port Manet was my own joke, and here I am forgetting about it. I actually searched online for it, thinking "Gee, that's a really weird name for a dive store..." Well, that's karma for me ragging on the store I guess... :blinking:

Thanks! We'll call Port Manet and Oasis tomorrow morning! (need to return tanks Sunday)

ARGH! Tank rentals near Lake Pleasant?

A certain dive store which shall remain nameless but rhymes with Port Manet apparently has a policy where they will not reserve tanks over the phone--only in person. This would work okay, except I'm in CA right now, and need to reserve tanks for a rescue course this weekend at Lake Pleasant--I...

    BP/W choices

Can I recommend that you might not want to use the same plate/harness for your two different setups? There are a couple reasons in my opinion-first that if you end up using them with different exposure suits it's a big pain in the butt to adjust them (yes, yes, I'm lazy). Second, you might want...

shore diving in Hawaii and Kauai

I'm heading to the Big Island and Kauai with my bf in December, and we're trying to figure out the most economical way to do the best dives possible. One question is--when people say that shore diving on Kauai isn't great--what do they mean? Is this in comparison to Big Island/Maui diving...

    la jolla diver okay?

I just heard a bit more. It seems the diver is male, was probably diving alone (spoke to the lifeguard alone, said he was from out of town and asked about dive conditions), and was found by kayakers with no air in his tank... I really hope he's alive...

    Pathfinder Reel Falls Off Easily

For those with Pathfinder/Salvo reels, just change the double-ender out for a tie-on bolt snap. Problem solved. Just switching the double-ender around will help, but it won't solve the problem. I know it's what many/most of us in MA have done.

    Gekko

Surface decompression doesn't work like that. The computer doesn't know what your next dive will look like.

    Gekko

Countdown? It let's you know how long you've been on the surface. It also gives a warning about whether you've been out long enough not to have your NDL cut on the next dive. Otherwise, there's really no such thing as a countdown.
