    WEIGHTS SELF DUMPING

Got the new velcro for my BC and went to a shoe repair store and had the man sew velcro all over the pocket both sides. It is really covered now. And it is working. Takes some doing to release it now. Got the highest rated velcro possible. Too bad had to do it this way. Not impressed...

Integrated weights, Yes or No ?

Lot of good points from everyone. It still comes down to personal choice. The integrated weights are expensive, at least the pockets are. I buy lead shot, fill zip lock bags and then sew them into canvas bags. I use 2,3,4, and 5 pound bags so I can adjust the weight depending on the...

    WEIGHTS SELF DUMPING

The dealer told me to buy some new velcro and have someone sew it on. Go figure! I have done so and will be testing it out this weekend. In the meantime I have installed a "dog leash" on each weight so they can't fully drop. If the new velcro works I'll remove the leash.

    TOBERMORY CLEAN UP DIVE

We spent an hour on the Wetmore. It's a beautiful little wreck. Didn't jump off the boiler though. Visibility was fantastic. Couldn't believe the rock formations. Totally different from Lake Ontario. Will definitely be spending some time there this summer.

Integrated weights, Yes or No ?

I use a Dacor flyt pak. I love it. Integrated weights are a lot easier than the weight belt. But I am having problems with the weight pockets self dumping. I have lost them four times in the last 3 dives and have not been near anything that could have snagged them at the time they dumped...

    WEIGHTS SELF DUMPING

I have a Dacor Flyt pak BC. It has integrated weights. I have 9 pounds in each pocket. In the last four dives the weights have fallen out of at least one of the pockets, not always the same pocket and never both at the same time. I have not snagged them on anything. One fell out as I...

    TOBERMORY CLEAN UP DIVE

Submariner Had a great time. Visibility is fantastic! Water temp was 55 Fahrenheit. Stayed down for an hour on the Wetmore. Did a dive on the Tugs. Will definitely plan a week there next summer. Waves were 4-6 feet on the King. Half the people didn't go in because they were sick...

    TOBERMORY CLEAN UP DIVE

Tobermory, Ontario, Canada has a fantastic dive area. At the close of every season they have a clean up dive. I have been trying to find out when it is and am not having any luck. We think it should be in early October. Does anyone have any information on this? Any help would be really...

    split fins

I agree with everyone as well. I would never trade my split fins. You do have to use a smaller kick but the propulsion is great. I can keep up to if not pass people I had a hard time keeping up to before. And the buckles do really "suck". I added an adaptor to the back of the fin strap...

    SHORE DIVES HARD TO FIND?

Depending on the area you live in you may find that shore dives are at a premium. Most of the waterfront areas are on private land these days. We obtained waterway maps both federally and provincially and checked out all the surrounding lakes and waterways with decent depths for diving. The...

Another equipment thing to check...happened yesterday (+)

Sorry for the confusion guys! We've done a few test dives to see what the problem was. The tank didn't do it. I added what we call here a "duck" on the hose leading to the bcd. You know, those underwater sounding devices so you can call your buddy with. Anyway, it was defective. Since I...

    commercial diving women

Hi Colleen: I don't know anything about commercial diving but I am a Canadian woman diver. What part of Canada are you from? I'm in south central Ontario and always looking for new places and people to dive with. We have a good group here and dive Ontario wrecks every week to around 100...

    Seeing the world through...

Surfh20 is right. You need a mask that fits and you are comfortable with. Just a thought for those of us who are half blind without our glasses, I've been using a US divers and it is fine. However I have just come upon the Mares ESA mask. It has the full front lenses and side lenses but they...

Thanks for the warm welcome the other day!

Hi Beachbum: I notice you have an oasis. I have one also. I did a lot of research. I have a problem with "cotton mouth". I hate that dry feeling you get in your mouth when diving. There were only two regs I found that said they could help to eliminate it and one was the oasis. I liked...

    BC's

I use a Dacor Flyte pak bcd. It is back inflated and the integrated weights are more to the side and back. There is no chest strap. It's more of a harness. To keep it from pushing me forward at the surface I added keel weights to the strap that attaches the tank. (ankle weights make perfect...

    much fear!

Hi Mary: When I started diving I was wearing 36 pounds plus two sets of ankle weights just to get off the surface. It was very frustrating for me. I nearly quit. In fact, on my first open water test dive I left the water with a trail of gear trailing behind me saying "that's it". My...

Another equipment thing to check...happened yesterday (+)

Hi Beachman: Sorry to hear about your problem. I had a similar one this past weekend. Wanted to try a steel 95 tank so borrowed one from a charter friend. Everything was fine at the surface but by the time I hit 100 feet my bcd was full of water instead of air. No matter how much air I...
