I’m originally from the US and have been diving OC for the better part of 40 years now so I am very fluent in dealing with PSI under most circumstances.
When I was recently trained on my Choptima (my first rebreather), I was surprised that the included SPG was in BAR, but it was explained to me...
While I prefer to have pressure in my back, stage, deco, dil and bailout bottles communicated to me in PSI, I would really like to be able to read the pressure of my rebreather O2 bottle in BAR.
As far as I can tell this is currently not possible.
Thank you.
Re: thermals: I use the HeatTech stuff from Uniqlo, which is both cheap and effective. In regard to the Lavacore - it's not THAT expensive - and it has the benefit of being neutrally buoyant. I love to wear it in the pool with OW students: I demo the u/w remove and replace with the Lavacore...
A couple of years ago, my mentor at the shop I teach through sold me on the S/P Everdry4. Having had several "big name" suits in the past, I was reluctant to go with anything from ScubaPro. That was until I heard the shop price: less than the cost of having a zipper replaced on another suit...

This is a topic that I've though long and hard about ever since an instructor told me, "As soon as you even look in the general direction of an incident, you're involved." This bothered me everyday for several months before I decided that he was absolutely correct.
The only time I...
I"ve got about a hundred dives on my AL80N dubs. Love 'em. They are a bit bottom heavy compared to a regular Luxfer or Catalina 80, but they balance my rig and trim me out perfectly as I tend to drop my head.
I've only ever had two problems:
1. I've been refused the 3300 rated fill by...
It all come down to this: "Don't be a dick." This applies to both customer and proprietor.
The way I had it explained to me is that a lot of dive shop owners are ex-military / ex-law enforcement who are enthusiastic divers and figure that they will take their early retirement and pension and...
Employers should pay their employees.
I'd rather pay a higher fee per dive than have to deal with DMs and crew members who won't give you the time of day until the boat is about five minutes from dock when they start to kiss up in anticipation of a tip.
FWIW, I feel the same about food...
In August 2009 I personally contacted JJ to voice my surprise regarding the unacceptable quality of the GUE-F training materials, and to volunteer my corrected copies. He refused my offer of corrected documents, and said new materials were in the works. I had additionally requested a pdf of...
I was under the impression that a welded D-ring was considered a needless entanglement hazard, as well as being uncomfortable when slinging multiple bottles.
With gate open and facing forward, reach behind the D-ring and sweep forward. Works for me regardless of which way the D-ring is facing...
I recently returned from Tulum and my first - but certainly not last - cenote dives. There is a fair amount of skill required to not only keep yourself off the bottom, but also from hitting the top and damaging formations. I have several hundred dives and still managed to bloody my forehead...
So your collection is "somewhat scientific" because you arrange them in order of where you found them, and if you wanted to you could actually look up their "scientific" names in some kinda sciency thingie?
I've seen more advanced grade school science fair exhibits.
But, whatever creams your...
