    Technical Training Road Map decision

I think advanced nitrox/ deco (or similar variation) is a great foundation to build on. Fundies is great and it will teach you basic skills, but I think you should have those before you go into technical diving anyways. AN/DC helps to develop the mindset that all problems must be solved in the...

Pick a Wreck for my 100th?

I'd give another vote for the Papoose. Lots of sandies and easy penetration. If you want a TON of sharks and easy penetration, the Spar doesn't disappoint. It's an artiifcial wreck but I've never seen that many sharks on any other wreck.

    If you have any questions

I believe that comment was taken out of context and the back story ended up on the cutting room floor. I think she was referring to a specific model that was sold a while back, where the fatality rate was around 10%. The CCR fatality rate is way too high, but it's definitely not THAT high.

Quick Hit and Run of NC Diving - Sept 11 & Spet 12

Yes, I would say that's an understatement. That's why that thing has like 15 million hits. He was on Tosh.0 this week for a web redemtion. It would be fun to walk in that dude's shoes for a day :shocked2:

Wishing you could spend more money on tech?

Now you just need to figure out how to spread the cost of the unit/training over time, plus the cost of cells and batteries over the year. Let's say we depreciate it over the course of 5 years and you dive an average of 100 hours/ year. $20/ hour. 200 hours per year, $10/ hour. At least we...

Quick Hit and Run of NC Diving - Sept 11 & Spet 12

LOL, definitely was NOT me on that video. That thing went viral as soon as it was posted, so it's been all over the place. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Quick Hit and Run of NC Diving - Sept 11 & Spet 12

Ken, you have to watch this video to understand my last post: :) YouTube - Yosemitebear Mountain Giant Double Rainbow 1-8-10 I'll check your calendar and we'll get something together. I'm determined to get out on the Tortuga.

Wishing you could spend more money on tech?

I was completely joking. You will save a couple hundred bucks in gas on big dives as long as you are keeping standard bail-out filled and available. The problem is that for all the shallow dives, training dives, NC off-shore dives, cave dives, OC gas just isn't that expensive and you still need...

Wishing you could spend more money on tech?

This is exactly why I spent $10k on a rebreather, to offset the additional $.10/cf that these bastards keep charging us. I knew this thing would pay for itself!

Quick Hit and Run of NC Diving - Sept 11 & Spet 12

OMG.. What does it mean!!!!! Jk, glad you enjoyed the diving down here. I'm 0 for 4 for the trips I've planned w/ Ken on Tortuga, but hope to get out with him soon. The Papoose is a great wreck, lots of sharks and they love to pose for the camera.

Report in 2nd DIRrebreather Gathering, Attersee Austria 2010

Sounds like a fun gathering. Is the rEvo III "pure" a new model model, or are you referring to the rEvo III in "pure" mCCR move (vs. hybrid or eCCR)? Also, did you get to see the CO2 detector operating in the water? Any feedback? Cheers, Ryan

    Can you buy this product?

I don't know that you can buy them direct from the manufacturer but they are relatively easy to find. Do a search on RBW and you will find lots available.

    Where to buy AGIR gear

Salvo used to be the US distributor. I would call Corey or Joel at Light Monkey and see if they still have the relationship. They might be able to get you what you need. I have the Halbrok 38 on my rebreather and the 55 for OC doubles and their wings absolutely rock.

    If you have any questions

That's the big question that nobody wants to address when they start talking about recreational rebreathers. OC rec diving has inherent risks, but it is more or less a safe activity. Technical diving (deep, mixed gas, hard and soft overhead) is an inherently dangerous activity that can be done...

    Tec Diving Equipment Advice Needed

I would look at getting this stuff first: 1- BP/W 2- Regs 3- Good fins 4- Good light Then find the guys that are diving tech, buy them some beer, and convince them to let you test drive their gear. I would not buy tanks until you know what kind of diving you will be doing and figure out...

    What is a rebreather

Gill, I think we have seen a lot of inexperienced and poorly trained RB divers passing away. The latest was probably the incident at Eagle's Nest, and I know of several others that were a direct result of either poor training or a lack of appropriate experience. Poor gas selection, diving beyond...

    Thistlegorm tank turn off!

A few tips to keep this from happening again: 1- Don't let anybody touch your valve, especially when you are getting ready to hop off the boat. I always ask the mates/DM's on a mixed boat not to check my valves 2- Practice valve shut-downs. This is mandatory when you move to doubles, but...
