    Nitrogen Dreaming

You are relaxed after all that diving. Your mind is clear and in a zen spot! Hopefully.

    Best travel route to BVI?

I have a friend that takes a cruise to Tortola and gets off rather than fly. He then re-boards in Tortola when his vacation is done and goes back to the original port. He has to pay for two cruises but he has lot of vacation time. While I realize this is probably not an option for you...

Purchasing and diving from a boat

All good concerns. We have never had an issue with any of these... with the exception that once in a while we don't find our anchor line. However, where we dive we don't have issues with heavy currents, bad viz, or whatnot. Your mileage may vary.

Purchasing and diving from a boat

I don't see any issue with leaving the boat and diving... we leave our boat at anchor for weeks at a time with no issue. Properly anchored and assuming no hurricane or failed equipment... or a stolen boat... the boat will be there when you get back.

Purchasing and diving from a boat

We dive off a Twin Vee. The major advantage to this boat - besides being a cat and having an awesome ride - is the very low freeboard. This make sit easier to drop off and/or handle divers or other objects in the water, pick up moorings, manage the anchor, see over the side of the boat, etc...

    Sony DCR PC1000

I have a PC1000 but not a housing for it... I am VERY disappointed in it's low light performance. In fact... it has bad performance in light which doesn't even SEEM that low - and this is on land folks. If you are going to dive with this camera you are going to need a lot of light.

    Sony DCR-PC1000

OK - newbie question here. I have a PC1000 that I bought for UW Video but have not yet decided on a housing. During low-light use of the camera top-side I have noticed that it has difficulty auto-focusing in low-light. Is it standard practice to set the focus distance before placing in the...

    "Surface" the show

I'm pretty sure that falls into the urban legend category. Anyhow - yes, I had a laugh at the thought of turning a rusty boiler into a diving bell, adding an 1/8 inch thick window to the outside using poor assembly and using two or three car batteries to provide power to a day of CO2...

    Problems with newer light canons

No... it's not the shape of the contacts... I found this on a another post on this board -and it works as I have tried it myself: You can scrape the coating of the ends off the energizers using a pen knife (I used a wire brush) and they work fine.

    Linux video Editing

I rarely actually use linux except when testing Apache servers. I fooled around a bit with red hat at home but unfortunately it was simply too complicated back then to use. Funny thing is - when I switched from Mac I thought the Windows was too complicated to use! The only real reason I...

How to take care of Foggy Masks?

The key is the cleaning, as has been said.... scrub it once using an electric toothbrush and toothpaste and then do it three more times. I usually spend about an hour cleaning a new mask. After that I apply seagold defog right before every dive and -very lightly- rinse it out without touching...

    Linux video Editing

Hi Folks, Look what I found... has anybody hear used it? http://cvs.cinelerra.org/ and http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3 I like the idea of adding servers to a rendering farm but not having to pay for more licenses.

    Crashed hard drive...

You know - I had heard of spinrite before also (it apparently does rock) and I'm kicking myself for not remembering the name... My hard drive also contained all my MP3's. Although they are all on my iPod also, I use Anapod Explorer rather than iTunes and as such used the on-the-fly...

    Crashed hard drive...

The ones created by large media outlets are stamped not burned... much like old records. Someone should make a fire/flood/tornado/quake proof computer. case.. that way it could survive anywhere. I'm sure the military makes them! I think the best bet so far is storing the files remotely on...
