Just wanted to chime in on this… I’ll never buy Apeks again after how they handled this. I think I had 6 or 7 full HP runaways on them (both CCR and OC use). I posted a thread on a FB group about them and got a crazy number of public responses about people saying the same. Privately it was even...
You've clearly struck a nerve with experienced instructors and divers with this line of questioning. This is because we've all seen this mentality permeate technical diving, and many of us have lost friends over the years to it. Simply answering it, without correcting the mentality behind it, is...
Serious question, was it a conscious choice to leave out the fact that the instructor is currently suspended from teaching? I don't know the circumstances surrounding it but regardless of whether the agency is right or wrong wouldn't this be incredibly pertinent to address? You glossed over the...
I think they're both really great units. It's why I chose to dive them and eventually teach them.
I find that the people who hate on rEvo usually have a personal problem with them or an instructor. In many cases they have legitimate points for their anger and I wont try to belittle their...
The controller sends a begin dive and end dive message to the SOLO board. If the controller is cut from the system before the end dive message is received, the internal board will maintain a setpoint of 0.7, assuming you still have a functional 9v inside the head. This only works underwater and...
My guess? Your OPV was too open or stuck open. You were possibly venting gas out of it throughout the dive without realizing it (even normal lung volume can crack a loose OPV and it has happened to me). When you did your dil flush you were shooting gas mostly out the weak OPV and it didn't get a...
I laughed too hard at these. It's refreshing to see someone happily admit when they were wrong without making a big thing out of it! We're all here to keep learning at the end of the day.
Yeaaaaa, I'm damn well sure that I never taught you that in your crossover course but to be fair a crossover doesn't really get that deep into dive theory and focuses more on building the unit. It's pretty much assumed that your student knows the gyst of "Carbon Monoxide = Very Bad"
Like St...
I disagree with this. I've never been so fatigued that I just let my loop fall out of my mouth nor have I heard of this ever. Hypoxia is more likely, considering the mix used coupled with distraction and a hard surface swim.
I wrote a blog entry about this a while back...
When are you ready for a rebreather?
In my own situation, I would continue to use a rebreather if someone told me I could never do a dive deeper than 130', or if I could never go farther than 2000' into a cave. For me, I believe that the following...
Yea, Occam's Razor has flaws when it comes to real world application. Many diving related accidents are more often like a Rube Goldberg machine in how they lead up to an actual incident. Some of these leave evidence. Some of these leave nothing. Some of these reset or vanish as soon as they happen.
Normally I stay out of this stuff, but when I see 'BRAD HORN ON ANYTHING' as a major thread title on the biggest dive forum, I swallow the vomit and pull up the chair.
Mr. Horn, a few questions for you.
1. Do you manufacture rebreathers for profit?
2. Would you consider rEvo Rebreathers to be a competitor to you in this market?
3. Do you present hypothetical situations with regards to diving accidents?
4. How many rEvo rebreather deaths are you aware of...
Probably, but you're still talking about being almost 300' deep, in a silt out, while on Open Circuit, in a restriction that just demoralized you to the point where you actually removed your rebreather. I think at that point you're just trying to get out.
The statement said that the QC6 offboard connection was found still connected to the final bailout cylinder which was used. Both onboard and offboard 95 were drained. You would have a breathable loop for small period of time, for sure, assuming that you don't have to descend, clear a mask or...
