    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

I haven't been on Scubaboard in years. I met Lynne here. She (and Bob) took me under their wings as a baby diver, in many ways I feel like a grew up as a diver with Lynne as a classmate, colleague and friend. Although I've drifted away from diving, we've stayed in touch--Peter and Lynne are an...

James-- Some local GUE trained divers are calling BS on this. I'd be surprised if you posted something that wasn't true--you seem stand-up. But, can you verify where it came from?

Easy. 21 minutes of deco? 21 second slide/pause. Duh.

    V-Planner

Gawd, that is obtuse. 15 second pause/slide for 15 minutes or less of deco? 30 second pause/slide for more than? O2 use if available? *** does that even mean? As in, "if you still have O2 available, use it on the 6 minute ascent, if you ran out of it, use something else. Or, if you...

    Multilevel diving and rock bottom.

That is too high for Lynne and too low for Peter.

AOW student looking to take tech route- wondering how i can get the edge.

Nereas, you've yet to articulate any reason for your anti-mask removal attitude. Usually, you back up your strongly held positions with at least some form of reasoning, why won't you do that here?

Sounds like a good class-except for the push ups, I see what you say about macho.

Nereas, your posts are somewhat like a Karl Rovian approach to a candidate's weakness: keep saying it is a strength, and it will come become one in people's minds. Everyone else, you are operating from a false premise, i.e., an instructor removing a mask from a student in a tech class is bad...

Looking for a little pocket advice...

Two pockets, but if I were to do one, I'd put it on my left side (if you are ever going to scooter, that is). One thing about gluing it to a wetsuit: use a cutting board or a thick piece of cardboard to stretch your suit in a comparable amount to how much it is stretch when worn. Do this by...

Dude, you are reading between the lines too much, perhaps for the sake of sparking an argument. I'm not saying I'm panic proof, I have quite a healthy respect for it. I am just saying you need to push the panic threshold back and understand where it is. Understanding it can go a long way to...

My point is this: Panic as a tech diver and you are more likely to die. Way more likely. Panic is controllable, because it has its origins in stress and taskloading, both of which are manageable with practice and experience. Good tech training will expose you to those, and will also...

Nereas forgot one really important piece, and that is mindset. All of the skills he mentions are important because they free up bandwidth to deal with much more complex diving. Remember how simple things like checking your SPG caused you to lose track of what was going on around you? Think...

I'd chat with a local instructor, or one of us that has gone that route. One possible thing to do is sign up for this list: NWUE Buddy List There are a fair amount of us on this list with tech training, and we can answer your questions there. My personal experience (as a newish...

    Tanks for West Coast Diving

Steel. Size depends on needs, many use double 100s because they are a good compromise between gas amount and weight, some use double 130s. Single tanks, 130s seem to be getting real popular. 95s are real nice too.

PST E7-100 vs older PST HP100 Question

The older PSTs (the 3500 psi rated ones) do indeed use a different thread. That alone would make me want to get the e-series tanks, unless the older ones come at a significant discount. Tanks can be cleaned for O2 pretty easily. But, factor that into the cost.

    Deep Air Diving - thoughts

Thanks Guy, all I can say is I'm addicted to helium at this point . . . We should get our crews together up there or down here for some diving at some point.

    For those using bottom stages...

In my mind the line is one versus two bottles. I can dive a stage just fine in the 2nd dive after a T1 dive, for instance. But, carrying two bottles gets more complex, so no T1 diver using a bottom stage to get 2 T1 dives for me. Of course I'm still a baby-in-training tech diver, but...

    For those using bottom stages...

"Never bothered" is a bit strong. I've used them where needed (second dives, stuff like that) prior to going through tech training. Mostly 32% in an 80 after a deeper dive. That being said, I won't use them on a tech dive because I'm at the single bottle level and don't have the training...

Do you mind helping a noob select gear for the PNW?

Dan mentioned you were in there again, I was there around 6 ish or so filling tanks. I'll be back in there next Monday and Thursday afternoons doing the same in advance of a tech class weekend of August 1st-if you happen to be in the area and see a black Infiniti QX4 parked out front drop in...
