Delaware Water Gap Mishap takes one life

Just a little more of an update on the conditions. There had been rain the previous few days so the current was probably up a bit and the vis down. I am only a few miles from where this happened, and these were the conditions I observed. However, there was also ice on portions of the river...

What form of redundant Gas supply is preferred?

Sidemount either LP 95s or HP 100s. Can add a steel 45 pony if needed. No problems.

Hmmm, did you really mean to post THAT? :D

    My venture into Sidemount.

Stick with it Jax, it takes more than a few dives to get your SM kit in order, but once you do, they are great. Of course, even after we do get everything set to our satisfaction, we are constantly "fine tuning" everything. Sort of like a certain brand of motorcycle - you get the base model and...

Are the rumors true? Atomic BCD!

Guess we'll all have to wait and see. I've herd that they are first going to get the new Cobalt computer done 1st, then do the BCD. Nothing like anticipation eh? :cool2:

    Cmas 4 *

PADI has made scuba mainstream, whereas before it was an "Only the strongest survive" training mentality. This is a good thing. However when training is based on a business model - ie more students = more profit, then training by the very nature of the model must be as streamlined as much as...

    Stowing the long hose?

It is a clean set up, however if you have to deploy your long hose temporarily, where do you put it when you get it back? Unless your buddy "repacks" it for you, or you take off your kit and "repack" it yourself, you are stuck shoving it somewhere. Most likely you'll end up doing it HOG style...

    left/right valves?

My personal cylinders have dedicated left & right valves. On vacation I generally end up with 2 right valves. It really isn't hard to get used to, and the safety factor of diving with two cylinders is worth more than the few minutes you need to adjust your technique for the two right valves...

    BC under the plate questions

Sidemounting in a cave, or other restricted passages = soft backplate. Sidemounting just in open water = soft or hard backplate.

    XXXL bcd

1st choice is BP/W. Check DSS as he may need one of Tobin's larger plates. 2nd choice is a Zeagle. I've seen some pretty big boys wearing their larger stock sizes. Take care, George

BSAC OWI to PADI OWSI coversion?

BSAC = More intensive and complete courses. Very highly respected. Greater teaching satisfaction IMHO. PADI = Larger chance of employment and a more (outside of Europe) recognized name. Taking into account the general nature of most people, since they are both certifications recognized...

    Dry snorkels the best?

If you are properly trained in snorkeling, then you really don't need more than a simple "j" tube with an open top. Dry snorkels are preferred by people who go snorkeling at the beach on vacation and have never received proper training in snorkel use. In the scuba industry, snorkeling is a very...
