Appreciate the input. I think you've all verified my suspicion that there is no "new industry standard" that I hadn't heard about. There aren't many agreed-to standards on anything, much less something that would immediately impact a large segment of the diving public. Happy bubbles

I was in an LDS recently and was told that within the industry, the recommendation is now for ANY diver who has been out of the water for 12+ months to take a refresher...that you wouldn't be allowed to rent tanks without a current logged dive. Smelled a bit funny to me.... Thoughts?

I know...I lived in the area for 10 years. I was just wanted to make sure people understand that Chuuk in no way resembles "the US." I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing either.

In my case it was more of an oil/exhaust type taste, which makes sense....they were sucking outboard motor exhaust (this was the age of 2-stroke outboards) into the compressor.

Is Gradvin still around Blue Lagoon at all? I know he dove into politics and was the mayor of one of the islands for a while. I had some great conversations with him over the years...and felt like he was going to be a great steward for Kimiuo's legacy.

They weren't being very well taken care of by ANYONE in the 90s and 00s....maybe it got better. I haven't followed developments in the FSM very closely--not sure if China has stepped into the void there. Chuuk is a very interesting place, but the "safe" rule was "don't leave the property"...
