Resorts to take non-divers to in Roatan

Hi all- I posted a few months looking for advice about a trip to Roatan, which fell through. I'm now looking to plan a trip for late March which would include both divers and non-divers. I've seen Splash Inn recommended which looks great for diving, but not so great for non-divers. Some of the...

How is water pressure communicated to the lungs?

They don't even need to be that deep though. If you dive to 100 feet your lungs will have reduced to about 1/4 their size at the surface. That's a dramatic reduction at a relatively shallow depth.

How is water pressure communicated to the lungs?

Recently I've been reading/listening to books on diving pioneering, including free diving. One aspect of physiology that came up, particularly with respect to free diving, is lung squeeze ("thoracic squeeze"). The free diver can go so deep that eventually their lungs can become injured from...

What to expect as single diver in Roatan/Splash Inn

@Doc @RBrentSt Thank you both for your replies. Regarding cash: if going for 8 days/7 nights, how much cash might I want to bring with me, assuming light souvenir shopping and no huge bar benders? (And assuming dives are paid for separately.)

What to expect as single diver in Roatan/Splash Inn

I'm looking to plan a last minute trip later this month (September) and am between Cozumel and Roatan. I've been to Cozumel a lot and wouldn't mind trying out Roatan, which I haven't been to. Plus, CZM is looking relatively expensive last minute compared to Splash Inn. I've got just a few...

    Malapascua: Ocean Vida or Evolution?

Hi all- A friend of mine will be visiting the Philippines in October and is leaning towards a trip to Malapascua for diving. Reading through various discussions here and on the web, Ocean Vida and Evolution seem to be standouts for staying/diving. I was wondering if anyone here has experience...

PDC - Good shop to work with if bringing my student down to finish OW

Third for CenoteXperience. I just got done with a sidemount course with Carlos, plus some fun diving. They're amazing.

    PDC Covid test recommendations?

I’m heading to Playa today for a week of sidemount/cavern training. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good testing location? Thank you.

Are the various Ships-to-Reefs organizations dead?

Not sure if this forum is the right one for this, but here goes anyway: I was reminded today of two different California ship-to-reef projects that were slated to be sunk in Wreck Alley off San Diego. One was the "B-39 Foxtrot" Russian submarine, and the other was the HMCS Annapolis. While...

    Flying after rescue course

A friend of mine is considering taking a TDI rescue class in a few months. She was just invited to an event in Las Vegas on the evening of her ocean dives, which in theory would end about 5 hours before a flight from Southern California to Nevada if she went. It's been a long time since I...

Somewhere like Bonne Terre that's not Bonne Terre

That looks super cool. Thanks! For anyone looking for more info, the dive shop's website is here. Unfortunately, dives at the site are currently suspended.

Somewhere like Bonne Terre that's not Bonne Terre

Like many of you, I'm itching to travel again. Recently vaccinated, I'm starting to consider safer options available to me within the United States. I've been toying with the idea of a trip to Bonne Terre mine for several years now, as it seems like an easy trip to a destination that's somewhat...

Help with air-filled feet in dry suit

Do you use the fin keepers under or over your boot?

Help with air-filled feet in dry suit

The suit is an oldish DUI CLX450, so if I'm not mistaken the feet are polyester/rubber trilam. I'm using the Bare Trek boots over them. And yes, I do have a fair amount of excess material, but it really seems like the boots contain everything pretty well. I'll put everything on tomorrow and...

Help with air-filled feet in dry suit

I recently bought a used dry suit off eBay. The suit generally fits well, but I'm having issues with air in the feet. The issue isn't typical floaty feet; rather, it's that the sock/boot combo seems to be a little too big for me in some way so that the air bubble fills it out, making everything...

How the heck do you take your Kubi gloves off?

I just had Kubi rings installed on my dry suit. In theory, they’re great. In practice, I find them virtually unusable as I can’t get the gloves off without tremendous effort. I’ve read other threads on here and have tried light lubrication. That helps them go on just fine, but in practicing...

    Scuba geocaching

(I realize this isn’t traditional treasure, so if a mod wants to move this please do.) I’ve enjoyed finding geocaches for a while now and finally hid my first one today. I noticed that one of the available tags when submitting it was “requires scuba equipment.” Until that moment I hadn’t...

Changing DUI wrist zip seals to another system

How much length do they add to your sleeve would you say? My current sleeves are a little too long right now, so I think I might also have to get custom adjustments done if I want to refit anything.
