Bonaire newbie questions for June/July trip

I skimmed over the responses and pretty much agree with them all. I may have missed it but didn't see anyone mention booties. The shoreline is mostly ironstone rock and coral rubble, not sand. It's pretty rough and hard on the feet so you should take hard soled booties, think tennis shoe soles.

Question Scubapro R109 and MK5 Parts

I use to make several tools to help with the installation of the oring but have been out the tool business for a few years. It can be installed with a couple pieces of wood, the tools just made the job a lot easier.

    Aqualung SEA Cousteau HP seat

By the way, creeping HP on USD/AL regs is often caused by defective balance chamber or it's orings. You may well be chasing that instead of a bad seat.

    Aqualung SEA Cousteau HP seat

There was a version of these seats that had a shallower pin hole but were not used long. To my knowledge, the older seats with the shallower pin depth were only used in early Voit regs, never seen it in a USD but knowing USD , they may have used it in a pinch. Voit had a replacement kit that...

    Bleeder Valve

Wouldn't bet on it. The old USD one is imperial thread, odds are pretty good these are metric, then there is thread pitch and size.

    Bleeder Valve

Unlikely you will find a spare one. Your best bet is to find a friend with a lathe and make one. If it's the brass one (not plated) that is a pretty easy job. There is a small nylon seat on the end of the valve screw which you will also need assuming you want this to work.

Cost-Benefit Analysis of Fixing Up an Old Conshelf vs Just Buying a New Reg

It's the metal cone inside the reg where the HP seat sets on creating the seal between the IP and tank pressure. Unless the reg has been flooded with saltwater (and let set) or damaged by a careless tech, odds are it's in good shape. In other words, don't poke sharp or hard things into the body...

Cost-Benefit Analysis of Fixing Up an Old Conshelf vs Just Buying a New Reg

FYI, the guys at Airtech are first rate, well trained and professional, I know them well as they are local to me. Matter of fact, I was trained in reg repair by the owner of Airtech .

Cost-Benefit Analysis of Fixing Up an Old Conshelf vs Just Buying a New Reg

Regs are actually fairly easy to service, there are lots of youtube videos showing how it's done. Unfortunately, you are assuming that the person who is servicing your reg is component and skilled and while there are many great techs, there are also a lot of poorly trained (if at all) part...

Cost-Benefit Analysis of Fixing Up an Old Conshelf vs Just Buying a New Reg

A third option is to learn to service it yourself. Conshelfs (with a few oring differences) are all the same, the same parts (and kit) as the early Titan regs and use the same main parts as current AL regs. While service shops may can not get an "official" Conshelf kit, fact is, it uses the...

    Trip Report Bonaire with photos

I like Margate Bay, one of the farther south sites. Easy entry with a wide shallow area that has large areas of elk horn coral and soft corals. If you are shore diving, get some HARD soled boots, think tennis shoe like. The soft rubber ones are hard on the feet as most all the entries are iron...

They do all inclusive, foods pretty good. Don't think alcohol is included but that might be a option, we just walk to the grocery and buy beer. There are a couple of wine shops within walking distance as well. Food wise, Divi has a better selection on site and some great places a close walk...

Bonaire - where to stay with 10yo new diver

Another one you might want to add to your list is Divi Flamagio, they have 2 nice pools, good dive shop, several good restaurants and are located easy walk into town. One of their docks is being rebuilt at this time but otherwise it's a nice place. Just got back on Sat so the report is recent.
