Trip report -Raja Ampat -Mermaid I

Great trip report! Thank you for taking the time to give us so many important details! We are looking at this boat/trip for Spring of 2016. My hubby, a marine engineer, prefers a steel-hulled boat and there don't seem to be too many of them. Did I miss something? This wasn't the Banda trip...

Anyone dive with Jupiter Dive Center?

This is good to hear--we (four adults) plan to come down in May and thought we'd dive with them then. Are there any diver-friendly places to stay in the area? Cottages/condos/old-style motels, or is it regular chain hotels?

    Belize next Christmas

How was the weather. I'm assuming you didn't lose any dives because of storms?

Gunmen kill tourist and kidnap wife from Pom Pom Resort

Have things gotten so bad that you need armed soldiers to keep the pestering hawkers away? :) Seriously. though, I'm assuming the resorts would be safer than a liveaboard? And is this resort--Pom-Pom--really that less safe than the ones I've heard about here in America? It looks so...

Gunmen kill tourist and kidnap wife from Pom Pom Resort

I hope I'm not a "white rajah" but I have to say this does not sound very fun to me. Who wants to look at armed guards patrolling whilst on vacation? Or contemplate the significance of that big red button? Can the diving really be that much better than other places? Like all divers, Malaysia has...

    Worst of Cozumel.

I do all I can to avoid the cruise ships. Once we were there during (college) Spring break; some of the kids on those cheap cruises are just awful--a terrible embarrassment if you are an American. Drunk--really drunk--rude, obnoxious, you name it. Just awful. I remember one jerk making fun of a...

Trip Report: Raja Ampat on the WAOW Liveaboard

Diversusan, please do write a trip report about your trip to Fiji! It would be a service to all of us. I've never been there, it's on the bucket list, but the weather/winds seem so dicey? Liveaboard vs. resort? So many questions--I need to read as many unbiased reports as possible. I know I...

TRIP REPORT - Wakatobi Dive Resort - September 2013

Fantastic trip report! Truly appreciate the time and effort to give us so much detail and information--and fabulous photos, too! I'm glad you didn't let the absence of Mr. G keep you from such a wonderful trip. I know what you mean about muck, btw. I believe my ideal dive is one where I root...

    What's as good as Bonaire??

Scubadada, we dove with CC, and yes, we dove both their house reef and Lighthouse Point several times. It's wasn't terrible or anything like that, just not as good as it could have/should have been--and it was expensive for what we got. Of course, this is JMHO, and obviously not yours! Equally...

Two puzzlers from the northern end of the Sea of Cortez

Sorry, Tjack, I didn't see your response. Thank you! I think it must have been a dark mantis shrimp? Not a peacock, because I did catch a glimpse of its claws. As for the little flashing fish--no, it wasn't squirrel fish; they were right near the surface of the water and they were very tiny...

Ondina Liveaboard - Raja Ampat trip report

Thanks for the detailed (and immensely readable) trip report. I think you covered all the major and important stuff--including the interesting shore excursions and conditions of airport bathrooms! (I'm serious, btw, this is stuff I like to know.) I also really like the part about the budding...

Trip Report: Raja Ampat on the WAOW Liveaboard

Well, one man's meat is another man's poison and all that; I mean, I don't really care about messages on board (although they sound lovely) but hot showers and clean towels and good food? Yeah... So everybody has the things they can put up with and the things they can't. And while I don't...

    Sorido Bay trip report

We went to Palau three years ago--fabulous, and I see what you mean about diversity (not the bio-kind, because my one experience with Indonesia (Lembeh) was that they blew everybody out of the water, so to speak, with that.) But Palau is a must-dive, for sure. But it seems the airfare has gone...

My Best Maldives LOB So Far – Maldives Siren Trip Report

Thanks for the trip report and for including information about Qatar airlines. As much as I love, love, love Singapore Air, Qatar has some very convenient flights going from my hometown (D.C.) to a lot of the places we want to dive. Good to know!

Rocio del Mar Trip Report, September 2013

Amen to that, Griffins. We are in the planning stages of a Indonesian liveaboard trip--planning includes thinking of ways to pay for it! :) I am seriously considering the Socorros trip, even though we are such pathetic wusses when it comes to cold water.

Thanks for your report! May I ask how you flew? And what other trips you find preferable to this one?

General questions before first trip to Bonaire.

We stayed in the newer section last time we were there, 2nd floor, near Lion's Den but not so close to the dive shop. I prefer the older section; the bathrooms in our apartment were just so weird--large, nowhere to hang anything, no counter space, and horrific lighting! Dinner at Buddy's looks...

Recommendations for Christmas in Cozumel? Aldora? Hotel?

Alan, that sounds heavenly. I prefer longer dives and dislike the "let's all go in a line to this arbitrary point and then turn around" thing. Of course, being obsessed with blennies and other small critters, I can happily park myself in one spot for the entire dive. I'm assuming you were...

Trip Report--Christmas in Bonaire and the Belmar Oceanfront Apartments

Good to know, Tunaman! The place really does look great; obviously updated. I like the Northern sites, too!
