An argument for always having a snorkel

I wonder if the level of previous snorkeling experience (i.e. prior to learning scuba) plays a large part in whether or not a diver decides to use a snorkel while diving. For myself, I snorkeled so much growing up that breathing through a snorkel is second nature to me. When I learned to dive...

    What to bring to Coz???

I don't doubt that at all. I just wanted to point out that Imodium can be a big help, at least in many cases. You're right though that it shouldn't be considered an alternative to medical treatment for dysentery or any other serious health problem. I'd also like to say that I've traveled to...

    What to bring to Coz???

You're wrong on several points. 1. Dysentery is the term for severe diarrhea that is associated with blood in the feces, not necessarily an advanced bacterial infection. 2. Amoeba are a genus of protozoa, not a bacterium. Amoeba actually eat bacteria. 3. Amoebic Dysentery is caused by a...

    What to bring to Coz???

    1. Imodium A-D for dysentery (very easy to get in Mexico). 2. Bonine for motion sickness.

    Exploring Cozumel's east side

Sharky, that sounds fine to me. I've driven a lot of miles. I'm tired of it and I don't enjoy it much any more. I'll gladly let someone else deal with it whenever possible. Thanks.

    Exploring Cozumel's east side

You've got a lot of nice pics there. So, what part of Oregon are you from? We live in Deer Island, which is on highway 30 somewhere between Portland and Astoria. Thanks for the tips!

    Exploring Cozumel's east side

Thanks for the replies Gdog & Dandy Don! Renting a van taxi sounds like a great idea. Where would I go to do that? Should I just grab one on the street, or..?

    Exploring Cozumel's east side

A group of us is going to be in Cozumel April 13-20. Becky (my wife) and I will be diving with Blue XT~Sea, but some of the others don't dive, so we would like to spend a day exploring the east side of the island, taking photos, maybe hit a couple bars, etc.. Becky and I are both avid amateur...

    Cozumel recommendations for newbies?

We finally got booked with Blue XT~Sea Divers. We have a dive master scheduled to babysit us on our first dive too. Christi insisted on the DM after I told her of our limited diving experience. It's no problem. It should be worth the extra cash if it helps my wife relax a bit and enjoy her dive...

    Jet fins for women

I think I'll get her the XXL Jets and some tubes of silicone. I'll pump the foot pockets full of silicone and have her stick her feet in until it sets up. :D Seriously, it sounds like the mediums may be too small after all. I think I'll try her with large Jets first, then go from there.

What's the coldest water you would dive in a 5 mm suit?

I have the same Henderson Hyperstretch Titanium 5mm suit. We dove in Puerto Vallarta in January-February 2006. The water temp at the surface was 68-70 degrees, and in the low 60's down below the therocline. I was was warm enough near the surface, but got a little chilly at depth. I had a 5mm...

    Jet fins for women

Thanks for all the help people. I really appreciate it. Now I'm more confused than when I started. :D My wife has ScubaMax Titanium 7mm hard sole boots in size 6. I think the medium Jets will fit. If not, then we can either try a different brand/style of boots, or send the Jets back and get a...

    Jet fins for women

I suppose the correct fin size will depend more on the actual outer dimensions of the boot, more than the shoe size. Since we can't try them on, I guess I'll just have to hope for the best. Thanks for the replies!

    Jet fins for women

Why is it that ScubaPro Jet fins (the DIR standard) don't come in womens shoe sizes? Available Jet fin sizes are: M/7-8, L/9-10, XL/11-12, XXL/13-14 Most other fin manufacturers list sizes for both men and women, but ScubaPro only lists one range of sizes; apparently for men. OMS...

April List, Who Will Be There?

Me and my wife will be there April 13-20. We're staying with some friends on the mainland (The Grand Mayan Riviera Maya). I've tried booking dive trips with Living Underwater and Liquid Blue Divers, but they're all booked up. I'm not sure who I should try next. Any suggestions?

    Cozumel recommendations for newbies?

We (me, wife, friends) are going to be in the Cancun/Cozumel area in April and I'm looking for recommendations for dive shops and dive sites. Since my wife and I were only certified a little over a year ago and we haven't dived since, I think we should start with something on the tame side. I...

    Confess your scuba crushes

A good diver is one that swims slower than you when there's a big hungry shark swimming around.
