More or less the same as I do.
I live in a cool climate (especially in winter) and drying the inside of the bladder takes literally weeks!
I was concerned with mildew build-up, etc. But, mildew doesn't grow too well in cool climates and I think the bladders have been pre-treated somehow so...
HI
Just upgraded my wings and was wondering what others do with regard to drying out the inside of the bladder.
Do most of you remove the BCD connections then hang the bladder out so that eventually the inside becomes dry - or just wash it out with fresh water, drain and let any moisture...
Hi;
I made a entry to my blog (first entry) and went to preview it only to find it published the entry....
The entry is INCORRECT and needs to be deleted.
How can I do this???
Currently, I have the access turned off to everyone but myself.
Thank you, Iain
Greetings all
Just a note to inform that the dive report section of my website has changed.
It can now be found at

Hello Everyone:
Many thanks for your input, although my question related to wing lift and not weight issues (although I can see how they are related).
Underwater I have no issues. My issue relates to being on the surface with a large and heavy camera. I questioned whether an extra 10 # lift...
Thank you for all your comments :)
I am slightly overweight on the surface on purpose. The reason is that at 5M at the end of the dive, I photograph gobies in the sand. I want to be negatively buoyant at this time so I can lie on the sand to get portrait shots. Without being negative it...
Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions :)
Basically, what was happening is that the bottom of other diver's tanks on the boat deck were hitting the top of the APEX regs. To stop this and minimize any potential damage I inverted the 1st stage.
This is not an issue when I dive from my...
Excellent point Pete and something I had not given thought to.
After reading this, I don't believe there is any hassle associated with the wing pushing against the 1st stage.
Oxychec wings are tough enough that a patch is not required. Cheers, Iain
Thanks for your input Herman.
Actually I am normally a bit overweight so I can maintain neutral when at 5M after a deeper dive. Last thing I need is to be floating toward the surface at the end of a dive when I have critters to shoot. Iain
Good idea re: STA - I'll need to investigate this.
Yeah, if you raise the tank in the hardness I hit my head (I knew there was reason why I cannot remember anything) :)
HI - Good point. The reason I invert the 1st stage is to stop the environmental seal being hit by something. As an example, on a recent trip to Indonesia other tanks lying on the boat deck were were almost hitting the reg. Iain
It probably is not an issue as the oxychec wings are very tough in construction and materials. But, I was concerned either:
1 - the wing when inflated will push against the 1st stage which may cause the regulator to unseat itself (apart from this I dislike placing undue pressure on anything if...
Hi
Will I notice an extra 10 pounds of lift??
Currently I use an oxychec 30 pound wing and transpac harness. To stay on the surface with my camera (subal, 2 strobes and wide angle port) I have to inflate the oxychex to full capacity.
Perhaps an extra 10 pound lift will help my...
I have been told that the bladder is ALWAYS larger than the outer protective cover.
It is done this way to prevent the bladder from ever being inflated to its fullest capacity. This increases the life of the bladder seams and minimizes the chance of an over-inflation issue
It's normal for...
Hi:
When using a wing and harness (oxychec 30 pound signature & diverite transpac), I note that when the wing is inflated it pushes up against the regulator first stage. I'm using an Apex ATX 200 and have the 1st stage inverted so the seat is pointing downwards. My wing is mounted as low as...
Yes I agree that the device should not be undone regularly.
My issue is that when I travel (frequently) TSA and their equivalent in Australia insist on checking the bladder. They unscrew the device.. Now whenever I am catching a plane I have to unscrew the device for inspection.
This is why...
Hi
I'm using a diverite transpac and oxychec wing. Lately, the dump valve mechanism (attached to the hose & inflation mechanism) has become worn. The screw threads on the attachment area of the mechanism to the wing are becoming worn.
I want to replace the mechanism before it becomes...
