Looking for dive buddy, Monterey 11/18 or 11/19

The Aquarius club (Underwater Voyagers) has a dive scheduled for 11/19. You just have to pay the annual club dues which I believe are $45 and show up to the shop by 8am for the briefing.

Is this normal? New wetsuit with 7 dives tearing at the collar

I think this has to do with the supply chain backlogs that have become the norm since COVID disruptions started in 2020. You can't buy this suit from the Aqualung website right now, and the shops I have checked with are all on backorder.

Is this normal? New wetsuit with 7 dives tearing at the collar

UPDATE (happy ending): I received my new replacement suit today. The rep at Aqualung had originally told me they had it in stock, but after I took the damaged suit back to my LDS, the story changed to not-in-stock and not available until sometime in Feb-March. So I was stoked to get a call from...

Looking for instructor recommendations in Monterey CA for Rescue course

As the title suggests, I'm looking to take a Rescue course in Monterey, CA in the near future. I have completed PADI OWD and AOWD, and my plan is to add Rescue and Nitrox classes next as I continue to dive more and gain experience. I am not necessarily interested in continuing with PADI, but if...

Breakwater Scuba now Cannery Row Aquatics

We got fills there in November. The website wasn't working at that time either. Adam the new owner said that was on his to do list. Really great service when we visited. Highly recommend!

    YouTube Content Recommendations?

I really enjoy the ISE videos by Achim Schlöffel https://www.youtube.com/c/CoastalDevelopment/videos And Steve Martin has lots of great instructional content (not just for sidemount) https://www.youtube.com/user/sidemountscubadiving I also enjoyed this view into what taking a cave course could...

Is this normal? New wetsuit with 7 dives tearing at the collar

Thanks to all for the feedback. As a new diver I was a unsure of how "normal" this might be. Coming from other sports with expensive, fancy equipment, my experience has been that if something was failing in this way due to limited, normal use that it would be a warranty claim. I've taken the...

Is this normal? New wetsuit with 7 dives tearing at the collar

I bought an Aqualung 7mm Aquaflex wetsuit from my LDS a few months ago. It fits great and is very comfortable. I really like this suit. But after my 7th dive in it last weekend I noticed it has about a 3/4" long rip in the neoprene at the middle of the collar. I took it back to the shop and the...

Trip Report A month in Cozumel (Oct-Nov 2021)

Thanks for the reply. We love our 7mm in 50-60F water in CA, but they do seem like "overkill" for 77-80*

Trip Report A month in Cozumel (Oct-Nov 2021)

Excellent report! Thanks for sharing. I'm curious what water temps you normally dive and what exposure suit you wear. We're heading to PDC in a month to dive cenotes (and reefs) and trying to decide between bringing a 3mm or 7mm wetsuit.

    Info Beginners Guide To BP/W

If you are talking about the corrugated hose that connects the wing to the inflation valve, the DGX BP/W kit comes with it. What it does not include is a LP hose to connect to the 1st stage. Assuming you already have regulator set with the correct length BC inflator hose (presumably 22") then...

Thanks for the info... very much appreciated! I'm going to call CDS today and ask about renting steel HP tanks.

Choosing a steel tank to purchase

Yes, but... I was probably over weighted in most situations before, because I am so new to diving and never really did any proper weight/buoyancy checks when I was diving rental vests. So probably: ~4# switching from a AL80 to HP100 ~6# switching from a floaty vest to SS BP/W ~4# from finally...

Choosing a steel tank to purchase

Since this thread has a few now posts, here's another update from my gear-getting process: I have had the HP100 in open water three times now, and I'm also getting dialed in with a new BP/W which I got from DGX (SS plate + hog harness and 4 trim pockets on the cam bands). The purchase of this...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the photo of the menu at the filling station. Is that photo fairly recent? Nice to see they have HP steels on offer. Your suggestion to not bring our own tanks, is that due to the hassles of transport or the ease of exchanging rentals vs waiting for a refill...

    Catalina Island Info

My partner and I are headed to Catalina Island in a few weeks to shore dive at Casino Point Dive Park. This will be our first time visiting the island, and our first time hauling our gear onto a ferry and then dragging it for a mile or so to a dive site. This will be a one-day trip, and we're...

    Info Beginners Guide To BP/W

Yeah just pulled mine out of the locker. It looks to be the same design as the SS but in plastic. Could be a decent backup if needed. Here's hoping neither of us ever need it.
