Also you made me wonder about bladder replacement for my DGX wing. It sounds like they will sell and/or replace for DGX. Here is a snippet from the comments section on DGX's website:
I wonder if an Oxy bladder would fit in the DGX wing?
Otherwise sounds like you are a committed Oxy customer and just need to bite the bullet. You could buy two DGX's wings for the price of the oxy.. shoot they almost charge a full wing replacement cost just for their bladders..
Here is a...
Always a risk in life. I've bought two new cars in my life and they always surprise
Always a risk for sure. BCD manufacturers don't seem quite as aggressive as car manufacturers at updating their kit tho.... They just introduced the S-Tec stuff this year have not seen anything new about the...
^^^ This is the approach. It's like asking someone which is best Chevy or Ford trucks and/or arguing religion/politics with your crazy Uncle.
That said I do have the DGX setup without a STA. Works just fine, every now and again the tank gets a little out of alignment, if I haven't tightened...
As a newer diver, I would suggest renting or borrowing a bit prior to purchasing gear. That said if you are set on purchasing a jacket style BCD or BP/W will serve you well. It's probably going to take you a bunch of diving before you begin to figure out what you like (I'm still figuring it...
Congrats on the new diving rigs! DGX bp/w setup has served me well the last couple of years! Great setup, no regrets.
One lessoned learned: do some good buoyancy testing and figure out how much weight you need/like and where to attach so you get your setup dialed in.
I have a couple of the...
Great read! We are heading to Buddy Dive in May with some friends for the first time. How do you all plan your days/dives typically? (i.e. do you have favorite dive sites you plan to hit every year, do you head north for sites one day and south another, do you talk to the dive shop to plan a...
All good points above, and apologies not trying to sway one way or another (ie. start a BP/W vs BC debate). 14 yrs is pretty young with a lot of life changes coming (growth, school, and much more) could definitely see a case for renting. It does seem like you have a number of cool trips...
I don't believe so. I've never had an issue with them cutting or causing issues. If they had bothered me probably would have taken them to the garage for some angle grinding, but did not have the need.
+1 for the DGX backplate and wing. I bought one a few years ago and have no regrets. I'm 6'2" and anywhere between 190 - 215 lb and it works well for me at any seasonal weight fluctuations. I opted for SS backplate even though majority of my diving is tropical/travel diving. I'm not worried...
I put them on the waist band. I usually dive in tropical conditions and when diving a 3mm wetsuit I'm only adding a couple lbs, so for my trim works well for me to add at waist.
I got the DGX SS BP/W last year and have put about 100 dives on it. Got two trim pockets for a few extra lbs when needed. No complaints, great setup would recommend. Planning to switch my wife to the same setup when her SP BC expires.
Continuing my nerding out...
After some very thorough internet investigation from the first google sources I found... the density of SS 304 = 0.289 lb/in3 and density of lead = 0.41 lb/in3. So for 6 lbs of weight you would need 20.76 in3 SS 304 and 14.63 in3 of lead (i.e. lead is about 42%...
Is this right? I would think you are trying to say the stainless steel weight takes up more volume... So the weight you are carrying is volumetrically larger, but probably not that much. Now I'm nerding out going to have to do some reading.
