Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

@Dr Simon Mitchell Do you have any thoughts on this? The question is are antiemetics contraindicated for rebreather diving? eg I've been prescribed prochlorperazine maleate and ondansetron for seasickness. Given that nausea is a symptom of hyperoxia, do you see any problem with taking them...

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

I'll have to look what I'm already covered for. I'm on the highest plan with my private health insurance, and here in Australia most things are already covered anyway by the public health system.. Private health insurance can just get you into private facilities and shorter wait times. I'm sure...

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

Will do... still not entirely sure how to contact them for advice though. I currently don't pay for DAN cover.

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

At the risk of being just another one of those boat people giving unsolicited advice.... Does she get migraines at all? Rizatriptan is another really strong drug that my partner takes for migraines. It's also apparently effective with motion sickness related to migraines. Also, the type of...

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

The ones I've been prescribed are Stemetil (prochlorperazine maleate) and Ondansetron (which I think is the same as Zofran). I was told the Ondansetron/Zofran is the strongest, and can in rare cases cause Serotonin Syndrome. In fact both can, but Ondansetron is stronger, so slightly higher risk...

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

Thanks for the DAN recommendations. TBH I didn't realise that you could just contact them for advice.

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

I've been offered it on some dive boats because that's the only thing they're allowed to give to divers in Australia. I've come across a number of people who it hasn't worked for, so I guess it's not for everyone. The last time I got sick on a boat I'd taken Kwells beforehand, but it obviously...

Sea sickness medication - effect on rebreather diving?

I’m prone to sea sickness on small boats in large swells. As a result I’ve gotten some prescription medications to take before I get on a boat. Given that these medications are anti-nauseants, and nausea is a symptom of hyperoxia, is there any official guidance on the usage of these medications...

    Measure scrubber runtime?

I don't get this comment about the rEvo rMS being "binary". The rMS has 4 temperature probes per scrubber (ie 8 in total).. it's not just detecting when the second scrubber warms up.. it's detecting at a very fine-grained level and can very quickly detect changes in consumption. It's constantly...

It finally happened - my CCR tried to kill me

Has everyone watched the Divemaster Scuba build/pre-dive checklist video on Youtube? Reading through this thread, there are a couple of things touched on in there that have come up in the discussion. From memory, the battery cover was discussed.. Also the new version of the rMS probes and how...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Where do you travel with it? Do you dive with dive operators at these places?

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Yeah I've seen that Horizon. Possibly an option. I'd definitely prefer full CCR. Still tossing up whether to take the full plunge. Horizon route will be cheaper in both unit and training. ProDive Central Coast will do the training for $495 to the 30M level, and an extra $685 to 40M deco.

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Yeah I have read about those signs. I also read stuartv's posts as pointed out by another contributor in this thread. He got no gurgling and only very slight change in WOB - so slight he thought it was in his mind. I guess that's rare though. In his case it was the back cover not being seated...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

I can't see myself doing any intensive cave diving or tech diving either. I think I'd generally be happy being limited to 30-40m. A lot of my local diving in Sydney will be within 20m. My main motivation is being close to nature. I'm happy to sit for 20 minutes watching a single animal. I also...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Will do.. But I'm a bit confused. Are you saying the rEvo is dangerous because of its lack of flood-prevention/recovery features? Or are you saying that they're not really a problem if you take steps to prevent it?

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Answered my own previous question about the spare scrubbers.. Found the cassettes with the rMS probes. EUR240 each (USD$293, AUD$378). The regular non-rMS cassettes are only EUR60 each, so the rMS ones are very expensive. Quite a steep price, but probably worth it to save a bunch of trouble on...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

I had considered this, and I've also been leaning towards rEvo. My only apprehension with rEvo so far has been lack of flood-prevention features. I 100% want a CCR with some kind of CO2 monitoring, and rEvo's tempstick seems to be the gold standard. I forgot how the tempstick works with packing...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Good insight. TBH I have been planning to start with a Mares Horizon SCR as a first step into rebreathers. I haven't been convinced yet that tech diving is that appealing to me. I haven't seen a whole lot of stuff that's below 40m that I absolutely need to see, so I'm generally happy with the...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Sure, but still have the benefits no bubbles (from yourself anyway), clocking CCR hours, lighter/more streamlined setup etc. Also, the OC divers could be twinset divers, in which case you're still getting extended time with a much more manageable setup. But yeah, not the ideal scenario. My...

Travelling / Boat Diving with Rebreathers?

Hi Guys, Long time lurker and first post. I've been doing a lot of research on rebreathers lately as I've always seen it as a future step in my diving progression. I've watched all the videos I can find, including builds / pre dive check processes for many rebreathers, and am also halfway...
