    Advice on putting on gear

Thankfully I have a car and I am going to try using the trunk of it to prop my tank up with while I don the bcd. I wouldn't be able to reach the bed of a truck lol And I absolutely hated the hood they gave me and I refused to wear it. It was cold and I hated the water on my head but the hood...

    Advice on putting on gear

Yeah I've settled on the fact that it's going to be heavy for me. I'm small and the gear is needed so I can't get around it. Just wanted easier ways to put it on that doesn't require me standing on the tips of my toes lifting my buddy's tank. I will have to get used to putting my gear on for...

    Advice on putting on gear

I did my ow dives at Gilboa in June and the visibility was terrible. Maybe it's currently better. I am going to go to Gilboa because its where I dove before. Do you know the water temp currently or how I can find it out? I hate the cold so I'm wanting to do a few dives before the end of this month.

    Advice on putting on gear

I definitely want to be self sufficient with donning my gear. This way I can do it on my own if my buddy can't help and I will be better aware of my own gear. I do think buddy checks should be done no matter how experienced the diver is. If something goes wrong with your regulator, you'll have...

    Advice on putting on gear

Thanks for the suggestion! I will look this up. Anything that will help make putting gear on easier, I'm all for!

    Advice on putting on gear

There are a few different docks from which to dive at Gilboa quarry. The one I did my ow dives at had an entryway to the dock that was a small little dirt path that was steep and hard to walk up and down with dive gear on. There was a small staircase to get to the dock but after the steep path...

    Advice on putting on gear

The open trunk of my car might definitely be a good idea. I could stand the tank in it and sit down on the bumper to slip into it. I will keep this suggestion noted for my next dive. I also liked the idea of using a bench to sit it on while slipping into it. Both of these ideas might be good for...

    Advice on putting on gear

Thanks for this suggestion :) Since I will be diving at a quarry until I gain more experience, I think using a bench will be ideal. The quarry I was certified at had a picnic table near the entryway. Unfortunately I didn't take advantage of it because my buddy and I were newbie divers and we...

    Advice on putting on gear

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I usually only have my mobile throughout the day and I prefer using my computer to type. I'm hoping that I won't need to dive in really cold water. I do want to take a dry suit class but I'd prefer to not dive cold. Unfortunately in Ohio, the water is cold almost...

    Advice on putting on gear

It was definitely hard for me to put it on while on land and help my buddy do theirs. I think putting it on while on a boat would be easier for sure. It will be a while before I can do any diving from a boat though so I’m going to quarry dive while I can. Renting gear is pretty costly though so...

    Advice on putting on gear

I did my ow dives at Gilboa. It was difficult because the entry to the dock required walking down a pretty steep pathway. It was even more difficult walking back up it after leaving the water. I will try white star. I don’t think it’s any further from where I am compared to Gilboa.

    Advice on putting on gear

When we did our dives in the pool there were tables around but I don’t think our instructor would have allowed us to use them. She told us that we needed to help each other and it was difficult for me to do because my buddy was taller than me and it’s definitely hard to lift a heavy tank higher...

    Advice on putting on gear

I think it’s easier putting it on in the water as well. We did the skill where we had to remove it and put it back on and it was much easier. I think it’s safe as long as buddy checks are still done. I guess the only issue is how to put the gear in the water. I guess just inflate the bcd and...

    Advice on putting on gear

I didn’t know foldable tables existed. That’s a good idea. Someone suggested putting gear on in the water which I’m wanting to try but not all situations will call for that. Propping gear up on something is a good way to take some of the lifting away.

    Advice on putting on gear

Thank you for this detailed list of steps. I appreciate the thoroughness of it. I will go over these steps the next dive I do. What are your thoughts about putting gear on while in the water and then doing buddy checks? It can’t be done in cold water but I wondered if it is considered safe if...

    Advice on putting on gear

Thanks! I remember we prepped everything and then put one arm in while our buddy lifted the tank. Even without my gear on, it was difficult for me to lift the tank for them. I will look for something to prop the tank against while putting it on so the tanks don’t have to be lifted. A lot of...

    Advice on putting on gear

My apologies for replying to this late; I work weird hours and I forgot I even posted. I think both of your suggestions are great. I don’t know about standing up after putting gear on while sitting down but someone may be able to help pull me up. Putting the gear on in the water would be also...

    Advice on putting on gear

I am replying to a lot of these really late after the initial post but I wanted to say that our instructor mentioned this quite often. It can damage the other equipment, get knocked overboard of a boat or cause harm to others. When doing my dives I didn’t leave it standing by itself unless it...

    Advice on putting on gear

My problem is mainly lifting the tank for my partner while they pull it over their shoulders and buckle their straps, especially if I already have my own gear on. After I have my gear on I do bend forward. It definitely helps take a little of the weight off of my back. Honestly I would much...

    Advice on putting on gear

I was certified at Gilboa. I’m aiming on heading there before the end of this month to do a dive before it gets too cold. Also, from what I read on their site, their dive season ends in December but the office is closed November and December and I will have to rent my gear so I need to go before...
