Drat, but thanks for the explanation. Guess it's external lights then. I didn't want the awkward gangly assembly, preferring just a larger lens instead.
We have a TG-6 and its external enclosure. The system works well and it's a huge step up from a GoPro or a SeaLife. Its only downside for us is its small lens.
I've found a couple of wide angle/fisheye lenses but I'm not going for wider angles. I simply want greater light gathering under...
Buddy Dive provides a threaded dry fob into which you put their truck key. Screw it closed, toss it in a BCD pocket, and no worries.
We often tucked slightly-more-valuable items behind/under the rear seat, then left a few things like messed up towels and such on the seats and floors. Basically...
A lot can change in a decade. We were on the first plane back onto Bonaire when they reopened after COVID-19 and stayed a week at Buddy Dive (their primary, northern location). Everything was absolutely wonderful! The apartment was clean and secure, the truck they provided had no issues, the...
The weight of carrying your own gear around adds up fast. I thought about those titanium air systems but the cost is astronomic and based on their own stats, the weight savings isn't all that significant.
Fins don't add much to weight, but take up space.
I need prescription lenses so I carry...
1) No, none of us are certified for wreck or overhead, though we've done a LOT of informal diving like that. The first wreck was very much "open" with lots of overhead access. The second was more enclosed but the DM had supervised us on the earlier dive and knew we would follow instructions so I...
Just returned from our trip and wanted to share some details.
Our experience on St. Lucia was excellent! Chester and his crew were amazing. Despite us being all the way on the north end of the island, he arranged for a driver to pick us up and shuttle us to and from his shop in the south.
I...
Trip complete! Here's a quick review.
West Side Scuba was awesome. Peter picked us up right on time in the roundabout just outside the cruise terminal. (Interestingly, Customs required me to get a form allowing us to take our wheeled scuba gear bag out of the terminal... that's never happened...
We've committed to Peter at West Side Scuba (WSSC). Two tanks for sure and a possible third dive in the early afternoon. Very nice guy, really looking forward to diving with him and his crew.
I'll report back here about our experiences with WSSC and this latest trip to Barbados. Thanks!
Just finished booking with Chester at AADivers. Super nice guy! He's even arranging for the taxi to meet us at the cruise port... it's an hour drive to his shop because the port is in the north and Soufriere is in the south. We think that's great because if we aren't diving we often hire a taxi...
I'm still waiting for Chester to get back to me to confirm our four person dive day. Have to say, I'm excited especially by Pinnacles... the descriptions sound amazing.
It's aadivers.net. However, the writeup of Superman's Flight I was talking about was not on their site. It was some other reference that came up via Google.
Chester at AAD got back to us today. Sounds like a really nice guy. It's a $150 taxi ride for an hour from the cruise port to their shop, but it sounds like the better diving is south his direction anyway. Plus on new-to-us islands we often hire a car and let them give us a introductory tour, so...
New island for us. I've sent emails to Scuba Steve's/Dive Saint Lucia and Action Adventure Divers, both of whom appear to get decent reviews, but after three days neither one has responded! I'm not surprised by a day or two delay when dealing with island shops, but three days is quite odd for...
We've heard back from both shops now.
West Side (WS) provides surface transportation to/from the cruise terminal. Barbados Blue (BB) appears to require you to find your own way to their shop.
WS requires payment in cash. BB doesn't specify but implies CC is acceptable.
BB will only do two...
So far we've heard back from Andre of Barbados Blue. He's suggesting the Marine Park as our second of two dives. I've asked if we can do it as a third dive per the comments above.
Thanks for the tip on Barbados Blue. My wife and I last dove in June, several days in the Caribbean. Our two grown children last dove in January, a Manta Ray night dive off Kona Hawaii. Hopefully that would satisfy their concerns about recent diving.
I don't use WhatsApp but I'll reach out to...
Our last Barbados LDS had pickup/dropoff too (we always tip the driver even if it's "included"). And like you, we sort of use cruises as something like a Whitman's Sampler to find islands we want to spend 1-2 weeks on later. So far that's yielded lengthy stays on Bonaire and Aruba, with Barbados...
