    Cost of ADO and ferry

My experience in August 2023 was that there are multiple stands where you can purchase the ADO bus ticket. We walked all the way to where the buses are parked (all the way to the right if I remember correctly), and purchased our tickets from the stand (and ADO person in bright red uniform)...

Hello from South Dakota & Dreaming of Diving in Aqaba & Greece

We spent 2 days diving in Aqaba, and what we figured out is that all of the dive sites are close to the South Beach, which is about 20 mins south of the Aqaba city. These sites are all accessible from the beach, so there really is no need to take a dive boat for an hour (they mostly leave from...

Roatan Tec center, coconut tree divers, half moon bay cabins

We did TDI training with Monty at Roatan Tec Center last year, going through sidemount, advanced nitrox and deco procedures within the span of a week. A few other DMs were in the sidemount class with the two of us, but the rest of the advanced nitrox and deco procedures was just us two and...

    Diving Bora Bora and Moorea

We dove with the same operators in Moorea and Raiatea - Moorea Fun Dive and Hemisphere Sub, and had great experiences at both about two years ago. Similar to Scraps, English was spoken perfectly at both shops, and pickup/dropoff was included in the Hemisphere Sub service.

First Trip to Tahiti or Moorea

We dove with Moorea Fun Dive when we were there about 2 years ago, and they seemed to be a more boutique operation than Top Dive in French Polynesia. It was very professionally run, included all dive gear if you needed it, and we enjoyed excellent visibility and plenty of underwater life.

Travel Backplate - XS Scuba Aluminum vs Mares XR Backplate

I use the Piranha dog bone aluminum plate in red (Aluminium Dog Bone Style Lightweight Backplate) with a VDH Argonaut 23 wing. It is $75, but cheaper if you purchase it along with the dir harness webbing and hardware at Piranha. My husband uses the DGX set. There are no noticeable differences...

Planning our first trip for next month

Land's End was comfortable, efficient air conditioning, great views of the sunset, but was just slightly less organized and a bit older/rustic compared to Coco Lobo. However, they are very responsive via WhatsApp, and are willing to address any issues right away. It was nice to have a...

Planning our first trip for next month

We spent a few weeks in Roatan last year, and it's not too hard to see it all. We stayed in West End for about 8 nights, staying for 4 nights at Land's End and then 4 nights at Coco Lobo (and then a few nights each at Camp Bay, Southside @Wikkid and a week in Utila). I highly recommend staying...

    Valentina COVID procedures and testing?

Hello scubakate, just wondering whether you ended up going on the Valentina trip? If so, any thoughts on your experience? Thanks!

    Utila dive shop recommendations

We dove with Alton's in March, and they go out to the North side of Utila every morning (specific sites are wind/current dependent of course). And as Stout mentions above, they are very good about separating students and divers of different levels. On one occasion, they sent out one instructor...

    First 7mm wetsuit

I feel you, I would have gone for the Nixie if it was just as easy to put on! When I tried it on, because of the internal cuff on the calves (and possibly on the arms), the Nixie was much more difficult to don and doff. Plus, the material of the Evoke felt much more plush and flexible compared...

    First 7mm wetsuit

I'm normally dress size 4-6, but the Bare wetsuits size 6 fit well for my 5'6" height. It is slightly large around thighs for me, but it didn't affect the look or functionality. Looking back at my orders, I tried on the same size in Bare Elate and Nixie and the fit was very similar. In...

    First 7mm wetsuit

For the Bare Evoke, I've read that it was one of the warmest 7mm wetsuits, AND it's easy to don and doff. Anyways, I don't think there's necessarily always a trade-off between insulation and dexterity.

    First 7mm wetsuit

I dove with the Bare Evoke 7mm on a Galapagos liveaboard, and it was relatively easy to get in and out with the plastic bag trick. I tried out several Bare 7mm (Elastek and Nixie I think) as well as a bunch of other brands, and chose the Bare Evoke because it was WAY easier to get in and out of!

Got my passport renewed in six weeks.

While this may work during the before times, more than half of the passport agencies are only accepting appointments for life-or-death emergencies ("your immediate family member has died or is seriously ill or injured while abroad and you need to travel outside the United States within 72 hours...

    General Advice for French Polynesia

There's some unconfirmed rumors floating around that they might reopen in April, but I've not seen official sources stating this, and it's always subject to change. I speak some French, but I did not feel the need to speak French during the whole time we were there, except in Maupiti (we spoke...

    General Advice for French Polynesia

Unfortunately, French Polynesia just closed to all tourism this past week, and there's not a current projected opening, so that makes planning a summer/fall trip a little bit tricky. We spent a few week in FP last summer, island-hopping and enjoying both diving and top-side activities, and most...

    Bay Islands COVID-19 Testing Thread

I've seen an order issued in the last couple of days that says all labs offering tests in Honduras (including the Bay Islands) must be certified to certain standards... and the majority of labs offering tests in the Bay Islands appear to be established clinics and urgent care centers that have...

    Bay Islands COVID-19 Testing Thread

The Roatan Travel group on FB has an updated list of testing facilities and prices for Roatan (and one each on Utila/Guanaja)... here's the most recent list, updated as of 01/18/2021 AM.
