My husband and I flew straight from Maui to the Big Island on Aloha Airlines' inter-island carrier... I believe it's called Island Air. They allow the standard 2 bags at 50 lbs each plus carry-on. There was no hassle whatsoever.

Shore diving with Shaka Doug in South Maui is great fun and I highly recommend him. He's wonderful with newbies. He's an SB member and you can PM him for more info.

Another great op to do the dive with is Jack's Diving Locker. And they are especially good with newbies. My husband and I did the manta dive with them in May and it was spectacular. I posted this manta video in another thread but here it is again in case you missed it.

My husband and I went diving with Shaka Doug last month, and at the time we had only 8 dives under our belts. Doug made us feel very comfortable and gave us great tips for better diving. We know every time we return to Maui we'll be diving with Doug.

Kiiy, The manta dive is a great first night dive. For the first half hour, you are sitting in a circle with the mantas in the middle (sort of like an underwater amphitheater). You want to be overweighted for this dive, otherwise you may have to hold on to some rocks in order to stay down...

My husband and I did the manta night dive on 5/22. There were 11 mantas. We captured some video, and you can really see how close they get to you! This dive was one of the single most incredible experiences of my life.
