    Mod 3 readiness

Hi, I am curious to know the more experienced members thoughts on what they think should be nailed to a tee before starting a CCR hypoxic/mod 3 course. I completed my mod 2 last year, and already have more than the requisite number of hours/deco dives to be able to enroll in the mod 3 course...

    To Nerd (or not)

Hello all, Looking for some feedback from people who have used the NERD on their rebreathers for some time. Thinking of getting one but it’s quite the investment so (candid) reviews would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

    Helium Billing

Hi, Is it normal on a rebreather dive for a dive center to bill you for the entire fill of diluent/bailout helium even if you only end up using 10-20 percent of it (or in the case of bailout, none of it). If yes, wouldn’t they be banking that helium somewhere and re-selling again for another...

DIR- GUE New GUE Project Diver (Level 3) Program

Thoughts on this new pilot program? Will it take off? https://www.gue.com/PDL3-announcement The prerequisites for the apprentice project are insane: CCR 2, 1000 dives, Gas Blender, among other things.

    Finances and Tec Diving

Just curious: How do you balance your finances with as costly a hobby as tec diving? Do you set up a yearly “diving budget” and try to stick to it? Or do you go with the flow and sign up for trips, courses, etc. so long as your credit card limit would allow it? Obviously the first option...

    Drysuit Squeeze/DCS

How much drysuit squeeze does one allow before it impeding blood circulation/perfusion? Does diving with more squeeze theoretically increase DCS risk? I can tolerate quite some squeeze only adding gas if I feel it is starting to impact on my chest movement/breathing. I don’t like to have a big...

Cave Training - No Nearby Caves

Hello, So I have worked my way through open water tec training, and am now considering cave courses. Those photos are just so damn gorgeous and I also would like to enlarge my skillset. I can certainly travel for my cave course(s), but…the nearest cave diving location is at least a 4 hour...

    DIR- GUE GUE CCR Progression

So I noticed something interesting: GUE CCR 1 certifies you to a maximum depth of 100ft/30 meters. CCR 2 lists only CCR 1 as a prerequisite plus a minimum of 50 rebreather dives beyond CCR 1 certification, of which 25 must be deeper than 30 meters. How does that make sense? Surely they cannot...

    Changing Regulator Mouthpiece

Hi all, My regulator's (Apeks XTX50) mouthpiece is amply stressing my jaws. My teeth also turn quite sore after longish dives. I have a wide mouth and feel that the existing mouthpiece is simply too small. Any suggestions for a replacement mouthpiece that (a) is compatible with the Apeks XTX50...

Realistic tec diving goals for a non-professional diver

I am writing to see if anyone on board here has been in a similar place or, as an instructor, can shed some light using their experience and what they saw from their students/customers. Specifically, I dive for about one weekend every month with the occasional longer trip/course every now and...

DIR- Generic Going down the GUE path vs TDI

I am a TDI certified normoxic trimix diver. I also completed my fundies with a tec pass. I am conflicted on whether to take tec 1 (and subsequently tec 2), or alternatively do the advanced (hypoxic) trimix TDI course. The second option gets me to the magical 100 meters right away and opens up a...

    Swimsuit under Wetsuit

Any recommendations for a swimsuit/shorts (male) to wear under a wetsuit? Criteria are: (a) should not bunch when pulling wetsuit up; (b) allows some freedom of movement for the boys; and (c) not a speedo. cheers

    Diving when your SO won’t

I am a pretty keen diver, who often goes on dive vacations. Recently I started dating someone who wouldn’t come near anything dive related with a ten foot pole (not even snorkel!) due to fears, etc. Otherwise, the relationship seems to be going fine. Have any of you had similar experiences? How...

    Psychology of Tec Training

Hello team, This is more of an introspective post. I would however welcome your views and personal experiences. I have been diving for some five years now and I am at a sufficiently advanced stage at my technical training (finished my hypoxic trimix) to be at the crossroads of choosing one or...

    Snacking Between Dives

Dear all, I am writing to see if anyone has good ideas of "in between dives" nutrition. It has usually been the case for me that when doing two dives a day, I start out fresh and strong on the first dive, but on the second dive (which usually follows the first by a 2 hour surface interval or...

    Inflating a Six Footer

Hello all, I recently bought a shiny new dsmb - 6 foot tall, closed, with oral inflation hose. I have yet to use it in the water but on a “dry run”, noticed that it takes at least two lungful of breaths to get the darn thing fully inflated. Question is, underwater, while inhaling from the reg...

    Second Thoughts About Rebreather Class

Hello I am a qualified tec diver (up to normoxic trimix range) and was recently thinking of making the switch to CCR. After a try dive and reading a bit about rebreathers, I decided to sign up for a MOD 1 class. Subsequent to my registration, I read everything I could find online about...

    Ear Infection Causing Vertigo

Hello, About a week ago, I woke up with the sensation of the room spinning. Feelings of mild to moderate vertigo and general dizziness persisted for a couple of days after which I went to the ENT doctor who promptly diagnosed an inner ear infection. He asked me to refrain from diving “for the...

    Mystery - Forward propulsion

Hello, I am qualified to, and usually dive with, doubles (backmount) and two stages. Recently, I have been noticing a trend where I have to fin quite vigorously to keep up with the dive leader (and it’s been the case with several different leaders/divemasters so it’s not a function of swimming...
