Very nice boat, I was on Velocean just a week ago on the Ambon-Sorong cruise. The most luxurious liveaboard I have ever been on and I was on more than 15 boats.
It is sad to read about Votex, I was on that boat in December 2021, fine boat, actually probably the finest metal LOB I have ever been on, super nicely outfitted. I was on the bridge - very well equipped in the latest gear. I was also on Solmar V years ago, this was nice boat too but much less...
Was on Vortex to Socorro in December 2021, very nice boat, huge amount of space per passenger, super nice modern boat, if you can afford it that could be the best boat there. I have been on so many mediocre boats that seeing something that puts a smile on your face is (to me) worth extra $$.
Just returned from a 5 day Bahamas Master trip. Their shark diving is phenomenal, the way they structure shark dives, exercise total control underwater is very impressive. But the boat itself was probably the worst liveaboard I was on, very tiny cabins, marginal food (8 of us got some food...
Manta dive in Kona is by no means "guaranteed", I went for that dive and not a single manta showed up, my son did this dive months later (different operator) - again, not a single manta.
This is my Source, served me well over 25+ years but became obsolete when I started doing Nitrox. User replaceable battery. It was wrist mounted. Haldane’s decompression model/algorithm, quite liberal.
If you want to dive like Jacques Cousteau-Emil Gagnan dive with the yoke!
The yoke was the first connector that was put in the very first commercial scuba regulators in 1950+.
But seriously, DIN is a better standard, all tech divers know it, but there is so much yoke around the world...
You bet aesthetics can be a big differentiating factor when everything else is pretty much equal, I got tired of black regulators so when I saw a white one - I jumped right in ... :giggle:
Is it worth it? Wow, what a bizarre question. It all depends how much disposable income you got. Is $200,000 Patek Philippe worth it? Is private jet worth its price?
Hmmm.. and how does it work? My idea of “backup” is DC I can continue using for more days of diving while say on a liveaboard. A DC that knows my current tissue loading so I don’t need to stay out of water for 24/48 hrs and then grab a rental DC.
Practically these days any regulator is good. I have 1992 US Divers Conshelf 21, still works, required minimal service over years, but also decided it was time to get a new regulator. Decided on Apeks XL4+. I don't think there are any bad choices.
Correct diagnosis.
Wrong solution since it involves the same old procedure of first selecting active and then "off-ing" the other one.
The only 'clever' way to do it is to have silly other 4 gases that you will never use.
For example now I have: 49,48,47,30,21.
Position "30" is my permanent...
That's the method indeed however it didn't originally work for me, I had 5 mixes in my Teric: 32, 31, 30, 29, 21. "31" was my active and say I wanted to edit it to 30 - won't work. But there is a work around ...
I have to admit that when I finally figured it out I had this "Eureka" moment but I wish Shearwater had put it as a tip in their manual. It is far from "obvious".
The issue: You are OC Rec, Nitrox, single-gas-diver and want to select a new Nitrox mix before your dive and make sure this is the...
