Question Maximizing pool training for under $500 without ongoing costs?

Same. I understand regional pricing differences, but our shop's OW class is $450 USD and you need to buy mask, fins, snorkel. And we have bundled packages that will get you into those for $150-200. All other dive equipment/wetsuit needed for your OW dives is included in the pricing. Hopefully...

Question Only Instructor wears dive computer (extra charge if I want one)

When my students ask me what should be their first equipment purchase after OW, I always recommend a computer. An inexpensive one of course. The reasoning is....every reputable dive op on the planet these days requires one and you will burn through rental money for them pretty quick. They're...

    Bahamas Master ceases operations

That's odd. Your email says "immediately" and someone posted this a couple of weeks ago (below).....are these the same guys? If so, why are they promoting a trip in three weeks prior to canceling operations "immediately"? 🤔 I suppose they possibly didn't know, but considering they're taking...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

Sure. My optimism lies in the fact that precedence has been set with both SCTLD and bleaching. With SCTLD, it only affects certain hard corals and doesn't "kill off" entire reefs. They tend to be affected then new life takes it over and it comes back, much like it has done in parts of the...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

We were in Bonaire in August 2023 (a couple of months before the OP), and while there were signs/damage from SCTLD there, we did not get that "all is lost" feeling about it AT ALL. Go have fun, enjoy your trip, and take it for what it is. A temporary issue that will correct itself over time and...

Proof of medical insurance to travel to Curacao?

It's never been asked and has never come up. You're good. Have fun! Surfing is VERY spotty on Curacao. The breaks aren't exactly "beginner friendly" a lot of the time even when it is decent, but you might get lucky. Prime surfing there is in the summer and the north side of the island. Dive...

    Night Diving Curacao?

Lucky you! Curacao is awesome! There are a bunch of good night dive sites there. I've included a link below that you can check out. Keep in mind two things with ostracods....which you may already know.... 1. You can't see them everywhere. Only in places with a blue seed shrimp population...

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

Yes The point of OW class is to teach the basics. There will be some work on buoyancy the class progresses, etc. but experience makes you a great diver, not an OW class. Is it possible you visited his pool class on night one or two and never saw the rest? See point above. You may not have...

Good Time to Dive North Carolina

Mid to late summer is probably your best chance. If you can do it with relatively short notice, use Windy or Predict Wind apps to look at the forecast and find a window.

Which ops do daily boat diving these days?

Dive Charter Curacao does RIB boat diving out of the east and west ends. Great op! Andy and KK are awesome and they take you to the best spots. You will meet the RIB at the beach or marina. Highly recommend! Small boat, max 8 divers, and good company!

Equipment Woman loses lower leg to prop - Maldives liveaboard

Good point on hose length, etc. That can certainly be an issue. I neglected to consider that I often dive with an Aqualung i3 that has a long LP hose and connects to the inflator at the hip. I get neutral, disconnect the hose, fill the SMB, and once the SMB is at the surface, reconnect the LP. A...
