    Captain Dons Habitat - Bonaire

CPT dons is great, but you absolutely need a rental truck. That's what Bonaire is made for. Anything else would be a waste of time.

    To Nerd (or not)

I love the nerd on CCR. I would never dive without it anymore. It's very relaxing to have everything in front of you. Especially while task loaded. The weight is no issue (I mean this thing weighs nothing compared to a loop, or bov)

Dumb question, but... how deep can you go?

I would say realistically, with a lot of training and still a moderate risk assessment, you can reach 100-150m. Over 150m is of course possible, but in my opinion the risk increases exponentially. So somewhere in this area is the border for "normal" CCR dives. If you go deeper (arguably even...

Question When do we speak of technical diving ?

Yes, with mixed gas, I mean a gas switch. And Trimix of course. But usually with Trimix you have at least 1 gas switch

Question When do we speak of technical diving ?

For me the word "technical diving" defines it by itself. Diving, where more equipment is needed, then what's known in the recreational diving with a single tank. That includes: - deco because safe deco without redundant gas is not possible - overhead, same reason - rebreather, for me there is...

    Taboo Decompression

Yes if I remember correctly it was on air. It was not an accident caused by recompression. My intention was, that an dcs hit(or something else) is worse underwater and want to give an example. Maybe it was not the best example. The fact stands, that recompression is dangerous, just because of...

    Taboo Decompression

Germany Berlin. Jeah not on a normal deco stop. More a recompression.. Information was only gathered by the computer profile, but that's what they said after analysis. Way to fast ascent from depth. A few minutes at the surface and then recompress.

    Taboo Decompression

It is way more dangerous then some are trying to sell it. Oxygen toxicity is a possibility of course. But don't forget the dcs itself.. One examples: Last year 2 divers surfaced with a little deco, way to fast. After a few minutes they dropped back down and did continue/recompress their deco...

Counterdiffusion (high-nitrogen-content gas after high-helium-content gas)

Really? Never heard of that reason. I don't use it because of the price and the bad isolation characteristics. Icbd is a problem for deeper dives, with high helium contents. A reason, why for deep dives the 50 nitrox stage has 20 % helium added. Then the change from helium to nitrogen partial...

    DSMB Technique

I use my dry suit inflator. It's fast, so being bouyant is not a big problem. But it needs to be practiced.. it's easy to shoot yourself up, if done wrong

Switching gas with 2 bottles and SMB

I like having one smb per diver. Some boats require it for tech dives. In very long decos it's way easier to hang on the smb, then having to be completely neutral for hour's. Ofc hanging means just very slightly negative, not really "hanging". You can do the switch with both hands and hold the...

How you write deco plan on your slate?

With s shearwater you can adjust gf high, while diving. So if you experience cold/hard work you can put gf high to a higher value. Or if you got a big problem and accept the risk, but a lower number in. Decompression stops will automatically adjust

Sorb-how much bouncing around in car is bad for packed scrubbers?

Interesting.. I just wondered about this.. When I use a new scrubber, I try to fill it at the dive destination. If it's a used scrubber, I open the rebreather at the dive site and shake it, listen to rattling particles. Never had an issue yet, but I imagine it can happen.. I dive a SF2. The...

    SAC rate issues

Compared to my experience I use a lot of gas. With other instructors or sometimes even students, I am always lowest on air. I am healthy, good weight, good cardio and got some muscles(which if course burn oxygen) but not like an athlete.. If a go on a recreational Livesboard, I dive a 15l.. at...

Question Deco gas as diluent for deco

Switching to 0.7 in shallow depths is not a bad idea on a eccr. But you need to drive your unit now manually to a ppo2 higher then 0.7, so you can offgas more efficient and don't get your bouyancy affected by the solenoid. Diluent should be a breathable gas for that depth, so you can diluent...

Russian citizen mauled to death by tiger shark off Egypt's Red Sea coast in rare attack

The shark last year was reported to be a mako shark, not a tiger. Snorker saw a mako minutes before the atack. I wonder why articles now claim it was a tiger last year aswell..

    Snorkelling in the red sea

Snorkeling is forbidden in some places for a good reason.. strong currents and oceanic white tip sharks are not joke for swimmers, especially for a 10 year old. Other than that: 5mm is good

TDI TRIMIX DIVER and deep air

As far as I know is a certification required for tech diving. (Dan and aquamed) And you need to stick to the "rules" that re made by Agencys. Deep air to 40+ is indeed not allowed by all Agencys.. so I am also very interested in DANs response. Usually a ead of 40 should not be exceeded

    Undergarment dilemma

I recommend the waterproof H1 10mm hood. I tried a lot and it's by far the best hood. I know a lot of people diving it. Dry gloves are absolutely nice. I wouldnt dive without them. If your core (torso) is cold, get a thicker undergarment, and a better hood. I don't know the fourth element, but...

Water in regulator at depth causing panic

C'mon.. it was an example to show, that going shallower doesn't increase the oxygen, as someone said before. And that a mix perfectly fine at depth is not very fine, when going shallower. Exactly what happens when free diver get shallow water blackout. Don't know what's the problem..
