    Jared Hires

Heads up, the A&I thread will be reserved for discussion of the incident itself. I have moved most of the posts from that thread, to this thread in Passings, which will be for condolences. This has been a terrible loss, take care of yourselves folks.

Medical Fatality in Plura cave system in Norway

Folks, let's be mindful of the special rules of the A&I forum. Specifically, we should not be posting the diver's real name here, until after it has appeared in the public domain. So sorry for the loss, I know a lot of people in this community knew them. Edit 1: the name is now public, the...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

That's weird, OP, because I was there in February this year and had a great time. Last time in Bonaire was Feb 2020 (just before lockdown). The difference between then and now was not large, from my point of view. There is evidence of climate change, coral bleaching, human activity, storms, and...

Established, Successful Diving Related Business for Sale

Earlier today this thread hidden for mod review. Looks like we're good here, so I'm opening it back up. Best of luck @AustinLakePumps on the sale of your business, and I wish you well on your retirement. Cheers.

Oh wow, that's incredible! Good luck to all crew members (not really, I hope it's me :stirpot:)

Nice! Not sure I understand the Anthony's Key Resort sponsorship. Is there a raffle or something like this?

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

Nobody sets my gear up but me. There's not a whole lot that I am religious about in scuba, but this is one of them. On a liveaboard, I don't mind if the staff swaps the cylinder out. But I specifically ask them not to hook up the tank straps or the 1st stage.

    ScubaBoard Invasion Central 2024 Bonaire

That sounds exactly right. I hope you find an operator who's willing to work with you. If you do find one, I would encourage you to make a trip report about it, because that info would be very useful for others to have. Sounds like either way, you're all in for a good trip :)

I am not familiar with the Bubblemaker program. I would hope that whatever shop you are dealing with, you are clear with them about your daughter's status as a Bubblemaker grad. If they're all good with it and you're supervising, I don't see any issue with this. Buddy Dive shop rents 40cu ft...

Info MIT Tech Review Article: Deep Diving on Hydrogen

Deeper recreational depths -- my calculations suggest around 35 meters / 115 feet. I'll flag that I am not trained for hypoxic dives (or any tech dives for that matter), so take this with a grain of salt. The InDepth article in the OP mentioned that they were careful to keep FO2 under 4%. I...

    DIR- GUE Long hose question

Respectfully, please keep in mind that this forum is specifically for discussing DIR answers to DIR questions. It enjoys special rules against advice for DIR-noncompliant configurations. I am just a lowly mod here and have no DIR training myself, but it's my understanding that this sort of...

    Hand Signal Communication Training

One of my dive buddies brought up the idea of using full face masks a few years ago. His idea was, it would be so much easier to communicate if we could just talk without a reg in the way. I thought about it a bit, and agreed that it would be easier to communicate, but disagreed that that would...

Is there such thing as a responsible whale shark excursion?

Yeah, I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's my understanding that this used to be much less regulated. There was a police boat watching the whole thing, making sure that the operators complied with whatever laws and best practices are in place. I think that these laws are largely there...

Is there such thing as a responsible whale shark excursion?

I did the whale shark snorkeling thing when I was in Cancun in 2022. Our boat had about 15 snorkelers on it, who would go in 1 at a time with a guide. Hop off the boat, snorkel along with the guide for 2 mins or so, then get back on the boat, and the guide takes the next customer. There were...

    Drysuit with disabilities

Agree with other posters that gaiters should help. Like these ones, for example. I think it's possible that ankle vents will be a solution. But, they may be overkill: they're more costly and add a potential leak point. The nice thing is, I bet that you can start out with a drysuit without ankle...

    Scuba Gear for 7 footer

Welcome to ScubaBoard. I'm going to move this thread from Site Support to Basic Scuba, hope you don't mind. I think you have a custom wetsuit/drysuit in your future. They're not as expensive as they sound. Since you're in Monterey, I'd recommend saying hello to Cricket at Otter Bay Wetsuits in...

One dead at Cow Springs - Live Oak, FL

Hello, this thread is in the Accidents and Incidents forum, which has special rules. The point of the A&I forum is not to insult or vent, it is for all of us to learn. Somebody died here. Please show some respect, the best way to do that is to be kind. Thank you.
