    Slow Opening O2 valve

We're looking for some slow opening oxygen valves for our bottles. We bought the slow opening valves from DGX but in my opinion they still open too fast at first (when compared to say a standard CGA valve). I know that Hollis also has slow opening valves, any feedback?

Question CCR Suggestion for Remote Boating Trips - Sanity Check

We were in a similar situation a short time ago. You may want to read the SB post: Making the leap: help choosing first rb We went with O2ptima for various reasons and are still very happy with our decision, you may choose differently. The tread has a lot of great information and will help...

Breathing a High P02 Gas Post Dive

I agree, he REALLY knows his stuff, but in this case I think I can change his opinion. I'm pretty sure I've read a thread here on Scubaboard where experts have posted that they practice this. If anyone here knows where I can find where it's posted I would appreciate it.

Breathing a High P02 Gas Post Dive

During my recent training my instructor and I were discussing breathing 02 on the surface. He was of the mind that it should not be done because it might mask the symptoms of DCS. I told him that some of the leading industry experts recommend the practice. Jeff Bonzanic and Dr Simon Mitchell if...

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

I just heard back from Under The Jungle, they are not selling sorb right now. I also heard back from ProTec, they told me that "due to supply chain crisis the price for Sofnolime has gone crazy" and they will be getting me a price. The Dive Rite store in Playa quoted me $15/lb for Sofnolime.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

The trim pillow is inside the bottom of the main wing, so it's not in the way. Haven't really needed to use it though, we dive OW and I scooter which just pulls me into trim:). After this class I plan on getting drysuit training, don't know if the trim pillow will be useful for that.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

Our BM O2ptimas (which we're doing our Helitrox on) have 40lb wings and an additional 10lb trim pillow. My back plate has a 23lb wing but I don't think we will be going deep in the crossover class.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

Sorry, I could have worded that better. When I said packing sorb I meant packing or canister's:) We both dive wet, I like my freediving open cell wetsuits(7 & 9 mil). Need to lube to get into but sure is warm. I wonder how they compare to semi dry?

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

Thanks you. Looks like we may be packing sorb. Seems ridiculous in one of the premier dive locations in the world. Ah Mexico! Any other recommendations? This will be my first time diving cenotes.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

We have ordered or CM conversion kits and scheduled our training in January (Playa del Carmen) We will be doing our helitrox class first on the BM units and then doing the CM class (same trip) Oh the irony, one big reason for the CM is how light/travel friendly they are. For this class we will...

Divemasters Should Ask 'Is Your Oxygen ON?'

Jeff Bonzanic did a great short video of going thru the pre splash checklist with a non rebreather diver. Simply hand the list to someone and have them read from the list as you perform the checks. I believe it's somewhere here on Scubaboard and takes like a minuet or less.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

Could not be happier. My partner just came back from diving OC in the keys. When I asked how he liked going back the reply was "I didn't miss it". We are planning on taking the Choptima course later this year for travel. If possible we want to take the CM crossover class and TDI Helitrox class...

    Where to start?

Me and my buddy were in your situation a year ago. We went with the O2ptima BMCL as our first units and we will be crossing over to the Choptima. Many of the parts are interchangeable and the cost is around $2,000. We need our chest area clear for the type of diving we do here in the states, for...

The New Dive Rite Optima CM - My 30 Hour Review

We purchased and did our training on BM units and are getting our hours on them now. We will purchase the CM units minus the parts we already have. I was quoted around $2,000. Keep in mind that you will have to get trained on the CM. You may want to read Making the leap: help choosing first rb...

The Great Helium Hunt of 2021

In Houston a K bottle (190cuft) costs me $250, so about a $1.31 a cu ft. Another suppler quoted me $220 today, it's getting a little easier to find. Retail $2.50 seems fair.

The Great Helium Hunt of 2021

How do you like your booster? I assume it's a GBD40-0L since that's the price Sonny is quoting us (with extra rebuild kit's). Can you send pictures of your set-up? We are gathering info on setting up our whips.

Important features when choosing a rebreather

I was in your position not long ago and suggest you read: Making the leap: help choosing first rb Tedious read but a lot of good input from Scubaboard members here.

Back mount O2ptima, Access to onboard 02

Fair enough question:) I will never dive a rebreather without a completely redundant bailout. I do a lot of dumb things but to me that one just seems beyond stupid.

Back mount O2ptima, Access to onboard 02

lp27's are very popular with O2ptima divers when diving wet, again we need the weight. On a 100ft dive for 50 min my BO on 32 is 89min using 32cuft. Adding O2 is 68min with using a total of 16cuft (8cuft of 32 and 8cuft of oxygen). I carry a transfill whip and keep our bottles topped up. We...

Back mount O2ptima, Access to onboard 02

Thank you, I'm not going to rely on it and it's never a part of my gas plan. We dive wet so it's either carry gas or lead, as the saying goes I'd rather carry gas than lead. Seems prudent to have access to said gas.
