In the water back pain is lessened but it sucks gearing up and getting in and out of the water.

So based on this logic, doing oxygen therapy for DCS on the boat is purely to displace new ongassed nitrogen vs any benefit of added oxygen in the body?

I don’t get this. It seems like the 5% is conditional on the normal air concentration. If the concentration is higher, why do we not absorb at least fractionally more? If we breathe the same volume and absorb LESS nitrogen because it’s at a lower concentration, why do we not absorb more oxygen...

Gas limited. Average dive time about the same.

I did a 2 week trip, similar diving, same number of dives per day, 1 week on air and 1 week on nitrox. I didn't feel any difference. But if given the option, I'll dive nitrox to lessen the nitrogen absorbed. That's as scientific as I get. I'll follow the more sophisticated discussion and...

We can improve our diving and take in less inert gas. My guess is probably breathing technique is the cause.

I would rather dive the way I want and take in less inert gas than have to adjust my diving to feel better.
