Somewhat of a dumb question. But is there a country where a PLB won’t work (ie, they don’t have a SAR team attuned to the signal it is sending). If I buy US version and register it, I assume it will still work when I go snowboarding in Japan, right?

Would the response be faster had they have something like the inreach instead of a PLB?

for me, I’m planning to do a lot of my diving in Indonesia. I’m not sure how useful a PLB is If most of the smaller boats don’t even have electricity, let alone have the equipment to catch your signal

What do you guys think about the Garmin inreach? Seems like it has a bit more capability since you can send text messages too.

In reality, I probably need to first book a dive trip before thinking of getting new gear. I guess buying gear is my way of trying to keep diving when I’m not diving, lol

That’s what I was thinking. I wasn’t planning on doing diving on my own anyway, at least not for a while. Where I live, there isn’t much diving going on here, so I’ll be diving destination dives. I’m thinking PAB + SMB should be plenty (probably an overkill if it’s just a small charter...

If you’re just diving with a group, as well as a DM in a controlled setting, wouldn’t a PAB all you’d need?
