    Max depth with pony

Maybe you shouldn't be diving all that deep until you can work these things out yourself. Do some searching and figure out how to do 'rockbottom' calculations for you and your dive buddy.

    Dives and dive time

Where does 'beginner' end? 200+ dives and Rescue certification does not equal 'beginner' in my book. Which is what the OP lists. Just curious :)

    5th Port

You know, I'm almost afraid to ask, but WTH does that mean? I thought this was a basic thread about hose routing.

    Nanaimo Charter Operator

You mean the one where my suit flooded 3 minutes into a 30 minute dive ... and there was ice in the harbour?! :eyebrow:

    Twin Tanks

As stated above: Read the links, and ideally find someone who can show you the 'ins & outs'. But doubles aren't magic. Make sure the first few dives are executed over a shallow bottom in case you have problems establishing positive buoyancy and with a experienced, reliable buddy.

    Dives and dive time

It's pretty clear that mistakes were made and it should also be pretty clear that we only have one side of the story. First, snturner, your profile lists over 200 dives and cert level of Rescue. Did you plan your dives? If so, you were clearly diving your computer, why do you refer back to...

    diving next weekend?

Cram: Sorry, just noticed your post. I'll be diving with a team later today to do some drills as some of them area getting read for a certification dive :) Having said that, I'm trying to get out once a week, please PM me if you'd like to get out in the future, which will lead to a much...

    Dives and dive time

I'm with DaleC. I would have extended the SI to at least an hour. My second dive would have been shallower as well, I'd have aimed for an avg depth closer to 30 feet. So, how did you do your dive planing for these dives? Were you diving tables, computer, WAG? Did you end up with DCS symptoms?

    Long Hose Configuration

I guess I could have. But the Z2 primary has blue highlights on the exhaust ports ... and that would look wrong with the yellow front :rofl3: Seriously, anyone I dive with know what reg will get donated... and I'd expect that anyone in full panic swimming up would grab the reg in my mouth...

    Long Hose Configuration

My backup is yellow as well. To demonstrate what Lynne said, if you were to get gas from this diver, where would you go: The reg in the mouth is the obvious one IMO. Though I've been meaning to get rid of the yellow cover ... for about 5 years ;)

    Reading Material on DIR Diving

Start here: SFDJ If only your friend knew some DIR divers to _dive_ with ... you know, a picture is worth 1000 words. :mooner:

    Manual/Oral inflation technique question.

Couldn't agree more. I haven't dove with anyone who's had one in a long time (3-4 years?). Long hose / bungeed back config has become very popular locally. If I were diving with someone, one of the first things we'd do upon descending would be an air-share to ensure they knew how to...

    what course next?

It was tongue-in-cheek. :) Your first post seemed very focused on 'courses'. Go dive. Enjoy diving. Be a good team mate / buddy. Get good at it. Take the rescue course with a good instructor. Go dive some more, get better at it. Learn to solve problem under water. Go dive some more...

    what course next?

Dive more. Stop taking courses to get you into the water.

    Honking Regulator

You folks realize you brought back a thread from 2005? FWIW: Breath your reg in the water. Outside of the water you can breath without a reg(!) ;)

    Sure sounds like it.

What watch do real divers wear?

To the OP: First a question: What's a 'real diver'? When I dive with a watch, it's a Citizen Eco-Drive diver. Many times I don't. Out of the water, I do wear dive watches as well. Ones that I don't want to get beat up ;)

Pros and Cons of Rigid D-Ring on Hip?

Yeah, we need more of these and some firmer action. The forum layout is clear, yet too often non-DIR answers are presented.
