Guided scooter – as in diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) - in Kona?

Yes, Chad Bell (www.divingbellscuba.com) has been getting involved with the scooters and may be of some service. I use him for my guests (sugar-inc.com) when they need to be certified before I take them out on diving tours in south Kona.

Suggestions for Kona in a few weeks?

For sure you should dive 2 Steps (Place of Refuge) as it is the most protected bay for winter diving. If conditions are calm, Pebble Beach at mile marker 96 is a great shore dive. We take our guests out at these places when they stay at Sugar Cottage (sugar-inc.com).

First time vacationing to Hawaii.....suggestions please?

The Big Island does offer quite a variety of things to explore along with great diving on the Kona side of the island. If you are interested in shore dives, there are lots of opportunities in many different areas. We take our guests (sugar-inc.com) out on dive sites south of Kona at various...

Kona Questions [macro photography, shore diving, LDS that offers packages, etc]

I believe Scuba Shack is out of business according to what some of my friends have said. Jack's Locker is probably the most high tech for your needs although Big Island Divers might satisfy your needs. They also have a good black water dive for their guests. When we take our guests out on shore...

First time diver to Hawaii guide?

We live on the Big Island and take out divers that stay at our sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com). We are located 63 miles from the Volcano National Park and on days you don't dive it is an easy trip. The best diving is in the summer months although there can still be good diving all year. We have...

July 2017 Video and Trip Report - Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai

We have been living on the Big Island for 15 years and Place of Refuge (2 Steps) is certainly a great place for shore dives whether the dolphins are present or not. At our sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com) we take our guests out at not only to Place of Refuge, but Kei'ei, Pebble Beach and Miloli'i...

    Which, where and why?

We've been on the Big Island for about 15 years and take our guests out on shore dives when they stay at our SuGar Cottage (sugar-inc.com). We have enjoyed having the big swimming pool right in our back yard and enjoy a variety of underwater sights to choose from up and down the Kona coast. The...

Kona diving - Jack's or Big Island Divers

Just know that I have lived here for 15 years and have been impressed with Big Island Divers and Kona Honu Divers. Sounds like you can't go wrong.

Kona diving - Jack's or Big Island Divers

Both outfits are good. When we have guests at our sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com) and they need supplies coming out of the airport, we recommend Big Island Divers as they are the first dive shop coming from the airport into Kona. Puako is a beautiful dive but you should check with a local to find...

    Monk Seal Facial Contact

In my 15 years on the Big Island I've only had one confrontation with a monk seal as a scuba diver and the seal slipped away before I could show my guests at sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com) so you are really lucky! What a great pic you have of this experience.

    January?

On the Big Island you want to dive the Kona coast for both boat dives and shore dives. Better diving in the summer months as in the winter there will be northwest swells that have to be watched. Just not as predictable water in winter but still can be good diving. We take our guests on shore...

Best months for diving in Kauai and Kona?

If you are looking for calmer water for shore dives, you should dive the Big Island in the summer months although it is still possible to dive in the winter months if you are careful. At sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com) we take folks diving all year around and have the experience to know when the...

Decompression sickness: Driving from Hilo to Kona after diving?

We have lots of guests at our sugar cottage in Papa Bay (sugar-inc.com) that want to go to the Volcano National Park after diving with us in the mornings. We always recommend waiting until late afternoon after we have taken them on shore dives in the early mornings in our area (Miloli'i, Pebble...

Best months for diving in Kauai and Kona?

They call it 2 steps because this is the only place you should enter and exit. You will literally see the steps where most folks will be getting in and out of the water.

Best months for diving in Kauai and Kona?

We have more luck taking divers on shore dives in the summer months although most of our guests at sugar cottage (sugar-inc.com) want to get away from the mainland in the winter months. In the winter it pays to keep track of how high the surf is with those northwest swells. 2 Steps is almost...
