    Prep for Cavern/Intro

One of the biggest things for me was figuring out how to do everything with a light on one hand and held steady. Switching regs (sidemount), mask clearing, laying line, dumping air from the wing, and other things I'd either practiced a bunch or was very familiar with all became more complicated.

Sidemount regulator choice post 2024 inflation

Love my Deep 6 regs for everything—warm, cold, sidemount, doubles, even the ever-demanding single tank backmount resort diving. Been diving them for four years and a few hundred dives now. Started with Scribble (Excursion now) first stages and Signature seconds, and upgraded to Signature first...

    Deep 6 regulator service

Not the case here, the opposite, in fact. The other shop in town farms out to them. They're just constantly that backed up.

    Deep 6 regulator service

Shout out to Deep 6 for the lightning fast turnaround on my regs. My LDS currently has like a 6 week wait on servicing, and let's just say they didn't do an amazing job with the second stages last time. Deep 6 received my regs Monday. Today is Thursday (morning!), and I just got the invoice and...

    Dive Rite Sliding D Rings

I recently switched to Audrey Cudel's Nano-slides, and I'm loving them. The Dive Rite ones were chewing up my webbing. Definitely pricey to get the Nano-slides shipped from Malta, but they've been great with AL80s in warm water and HP100s in the cold. Big fan.

    Deco harness tiny metal piece?

It fits through the semi-triangular hole in the "tail double D" to secure the bottom of the wing to the crotch strap. Edit: See this page: DECO Tail Double Dee Wing Lock

    Northern Diver Universal Helmet Mount?

Anyone used the Northern Diver Universal Helmet Mount? They're less than half the cost of the Razor version (not including whatever shipping across the pond ends up being). Other Northern Diver products don't get the greatest reviews, but this seems like a fairly straightforward design. Just...

    First Cold Water Post-dive Thoughts

Saw a few thousand fish in Tahoe yesterday (Mackinaw and Lahontan cutthroat trout, huge schools of juvenile trout of different varieties and Lahontan redside shiners, speckled dace, and even a Paiute sculpin), as well as some pretty epic granite walls. Low of 48F at 120'. Saturday was largely...

Is this true of the whole area or just much of it?

Wanted A Diver's Guide to Northern California, Bruce Watkins

Okay, the publisher is out of copies, but she put me in touch with Bruce Watkins himself, who gave me a list of shops who might have it still. Time to make some phone calls!

Thanks! I have not, but it's now on my list of things to do today done. Fingers crossed.

Wanted A Diver's Guide to Northern California, Bruce Watkins

Trying to track down a copy of Bruce Watkins' A Diver's Guide to Northern California. Give me a holler if you've got one you'd be willing to part with. Thanks!

    Favorite Dive Sites in NorCal

With pleasure. Can you recommend some good shore-accessible kelp forests? Entry doesn't have to be easy, just possible. You've mentioned Arena Rock elsewhere on SB. Is the only way out there with a boat? If so, is anyone taking divers out there? Can any boats nearby be privately chartered as a...

    Favorite Dive Sites in NorCal

This past Sunday at Steller Cove (D.L. Bliss), it was almost 70° right at the surface, 44° down past 100', and an average of 55°. Pretty nice! The fish are out, too.

    Favorite Dive Sites in NorCal

I dive Lake Tahoe quite a bit, and that's not too far from you. Favorite dive sites: Stateline Point and Ritter Cove at D.L. Bliss. I made this website because there wasn't much info about diving the lake. I've got a lot of other Tahoe dive sites described there, as well. Apart from that, I...

Lift bag as backup lift device: open bottom or baffled?

If you're considering using it as backup lift, you definitely want a closed bag. I use the Mares XR that DGX carries. It's got 80 lbs / 36 kg of lift. Really nice to hang on for stops. OPV deflates it just fine at the surface.

SUMP UK hardware on Katana 2

Very slick. Sounds like I need to brush up on my asking-nicely skills, so I can get one of those new wings. 😂 How do you like the buckle?

    drysuit user changeable neck seals

Yup Just did some light googling, and it looks like the Hollis suit uses the SiTech neck system. Loads of places to get seals, most of which will charge a lot less than Hollis with the LDS markup. Here's one from Scubadelphia.

Where did you solo dive today?

Jumped in a lake this weekend. Two dives, 105 and 45 minutes, both solo, one deco. Arrow Rock site at Stateline Point, Lake Tahoe.
